Re: Please add Gyro Aiming!

https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/yx5apc/infinty_ward_added_gyro_aim_to_modern_warfare_ii/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

In their latest patch, Infinity Ward added Gyro Aim for controller players. Its growing in popularity the last year. A system that when implemented properly, gives mouse-like aim WITHOUT the need of aim assist -- All games with Gyro Aim shut AA off including MWII. It doesnt replace stick aiming of course for those who do not prefer it. But Ive been using it various games on PS5 for over a year and its hard to go back to traditional stick aiming because of how clunky it is vs Gyro.

To give a sense of how Gyro helps as well, I run it turned ON all the time in my games for all forms of aiming.  Simply, My right stick is only to recenter the screen (I love Flick Stick methods from Fortnite and Deathloop). In MWII, this allows me to have my Sensitivity of my right stick at MAX (20). This allows me to respond to my surroundings much faster since Gyro Aim handles the aiming of both hipfire and ADS.  Fortnite has the best implementation and its made gaming so much better for me and many others on controller.

I hope to see this in the future of BF games.

Here is a video to show how its used (the movements are subtle and nothing like the Wii days):  https://youtu.be/GD8Vnj_izgc

Here are some videos of what its like in MWII

    Hey @BgobbleD,

That is indeed some interesting feedback, thanks for that. I'll make sure to pass it on to the teams.

Thanks!  If they need references Fortnite has the best implementation and Epic Games had Jibb Smart design it for them (https://youtu.be/CiSS5OsNCNU).  He is very knowledgeable on the development of it.

  • @EA_Leuuw Please add the support for Battlefield and apex. Gyro aiming should become a standard option for FPS and any other shooting games.

Gyro aiming does not rely on aim assist which means it does not need any aim assist. Seeing dice trying to figure out how to make a good aim assist for 2042 made me think that it is probably easier to implement good gyro controls than making good/balanced aim assist.

I have been enjoying gyro aiming on recent Playstation exclusives and since MW2 added gyro support. It made me actually play warzone 2. Going back to battlefield is such a downgrade since it still has only stick aiming.

Gyro/motion aiming would make crossplay more fair. And the game becomes more accessible
  • 2042 Should get Gyro/Motion aiming on Ps5/PC

If someone doesn’t know that motion/gyro aiming is —> It is basically aiming by moving/tilting your controller. Not swinging like in wii tennis. Once you learn to use it you will have MnK LIKE accuracy without the help of aim assist.

There isn’t really any reason why it shouldn’t be added.

    • It gives alternative input for supported controllers.
    •  Changes controller gameplay completely (Faster + Less clunky)
    •  Makes crossplay more fair since now Ps5/PC Users have native access to more accurate input (without needing new hardware)
    • Makes the game more accessible.

Sadly xbox controllers do not have gyro. But it shouldn’t stop games from moving forwards. Xbox should realize that their controllers are behind the competetion

Many games already support gyro aiming on Ps5/PC. Games like Fortnite, Deathloop, Forbidden west, God of war ragnarök and MW2/Warzone all have the support. So maybe it is time for battlefield to jump into gyro aiming train.

On PC you can already use gyro through third party software or steams input remapper on any game!

This video from Siifar shows how accurate Gyro can be. The gameplay looks like it is being played with MnK.

Yeah, going back to stick aiming is atrociously bad haha.  Its such a downgrade once you get use to Gyro Aim.  The gaming experience is just nowhere near as fun.  Hell, even God of War Ragnarok implemented a really good Gyro Aim and it made ranged combat soooo much better.

Also,  I use Flick Stick with Gyro on all the time in Fortnite and its phenomenal how responsive it is.  Even going from Flick Stick to normal stick usage in Gyro Aim is weird lol.

MWII needs some additional settings though such as Sensitivity sliders for different zoom levels, Acceleration, Smoothing, and Threshold options, and a Gyro Modifier to temporarily shut off Gyro Aim to readjust the controller.  Plus, I would also love to see Flick Stick make its way there as well.

I actually talk about some of these issues in this video for MWII:  https://youtu.be/fpsRqEDJLC4

Absolutely!  Again, if your team needs advice, Jibb Smart is the best with the development of Gyro Aim from what Ive seen--was the one who implemented Fortnites Gyro Aim for Epic Games which was excellent.  This Discord is probably the easiest place to reach him and is also where other Gyro Aim devs hang out  https://discord.gg/zP99FGfF

Thanks for taking the time to respond.  Much appreciated!

@MrRonski16 EA’s incompetence on this topic is beyond understanding. Console-PC Cross-Play already is so IMBALANCED and mauls console players… why keeping trying to fix * aim assist when you can just add gyro? It’s like a controller as mouse, it’s already there!

Players have been asking for it before release…

I fail to see how anyone with say a PS5 controller can go up against a PC player with a mouse and fingers on the keyboard.

Thats how I used to play games before I got into console gaming and I can say it's no wonder we get mowed down by PC players, the controller is clunky and no way can you react or move anywhere as quickly as they can.

I posted about this a few weeks ago and got a reply from an EA community manager a couple of times:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/Would-LOVE-for-Gyro-Aim-to-be-added-to-BF-like-MW2-did-for/m-p/12063880/highlight/false

So at least its HOPEFULLY not going completely unrealized anymore.

And I play using an "incomplete" implementation of Gyro Aim on Modern Warfare II and still manage very well vs an over-aggressive Aim Assist

    https://youtu.be/_lgOZ6BQbaA

    https://youtu.be/rCJmlmi1fIQ

Hopefully, EA will implement Gyro Aim in all their shooters.  Would love to see it in the BF franchise and also Apex Legends.

XIM MATRIX has just been revealed and it supports Gyro aim using PlayStation controllers in all games. You can even use PlayStation controller Gyro aim in Xbox games!

XIM MATRIX also supports Nintendo gyro controllers too, but XIM NEXUS still offers the highest precision Gyro aim possible.

@OskooI_007 That's not an option for PlayStation 5 unless you use XIM via Remote Play app ... which then is pointless due to latency and input lag.

@BirkelandPSN Remote play is only used to send controller input to PS5 over local LAN Ethernet. You still plug the PS5 directly into the TV using HDMI cable so there isn't any controller lag or screen lag.

i have no clue what Gyro aim actually does but if i understood this right so far you get the benefits of controller inputs (Aim-assist, Snap Aim Assist, 25% recoil reduction) and teh precision of simulated mouse and keyboard?

No.  Gyro Aim is utilizing the motion controls in controllers to give "mouse-like" aim and does not utilize Aim Assist because of that.  Most games will shut off any form of AA if you turn the Gyro Aim setting on (like Fortnite) because of the fact it mimicks a mouse and is no longer necessary.  And know that the amount of physical movement you make with the controller is about the same, if not much more than using a mouse.  Its mostly very minor tilts with the controller.  No waving it around.  And the Right Thumbstick only handles the recentering of your screen (or hipfire depending on how some people decide to utilize the Gyro Aim).  Because of this, you can crank the sensitivity way up to respond faster around your character.  "Flick Stick" is actually the epitome of this and is my preferred method (shown in the video below).

Here is a good explanation and visual of it:

    https://youtu.be/CiSS5OsNCNU

Here are a couple of videos of when I used it on MWII recently on the PS5:

    https://youtu.be/ZbHZdSiELao

    https://youtu.be/IPLtPjVa30o

A major perk to Gyro Aim as well is the fact that because youre no longer using the Right Thumbstick to aim, your right thumb gets freed up so in most cases you learn to hover over the action buttons like jumping and crouching.  So its very easy to aim and jump like Keyboard and Mouse.  Plus, youre still getting the benefits of having access to a joystick for moving around (typically more precise than WASD) and is usually the preferred method when flying or driving vehicles.

  • @OskooI_007 I've tried the controller on PS5 at my friends house since he has one, and there is 100% input lag on PS5. It's actually very sus that you're saying there isn't... are you just trying to market the controller?

@BirkelandPSN haha I thought the same thing when I read his original comment with the vid a out the controller.  I though it was an ad.

But I also dont care for some of those 3rd party controllers because they have software that can negate recoil and other stats, which is just another form of cheating.  Thus why some devs will ban accounts caught using some of these.

  • @BgobbleD Yeah, I agree. They try to market things like that as an accessibility feature for people with disabilities, which in theory is really good, but in reality the features are being used by normal people to gain a competitive advantage.
  • @OskooI_007 I'm not invested in the product enough to know the difference between the different models. All I know is that it's not officially licensed and probably just as bad as the model that I did try.

@BirkelandPSN @OskooI_007 In the end, Gyro Aim should just natively be implemented without the necessity of an overpriced 3rd party controller imo.  Would be nice if devs start taking advantage of the features given to them that can improve gaming.  Gyro Aim is fairly significant on this front for controller players.

And also, MS has recently filed a patent for new controller features (touch pad and haptic feedbacks like the DualSense) with rumor its being prototyped inhouse.  So hopefully this pushes for more standardized implementations from devs.  Cuz I actually love the touchpad on the DualShock and DualSense but its either under or poorly utilized.  Yet it makes an exceptional second D-Pad system for 4 plus actions to map.  I use it a ton in games for non-combat related buttons that can offer shortcuts without going through menus and whatnot.

  • MW2 further improving Gyro Aim settings quite a bit along with adding Flick Stick in their Season 2 patch (https://imgur.com/gallery/TjPAAS2).

BF is much more my preferred game so would love to get back going full swing into this franchise once this were added.  Again, the playerbase is strongly there and growing that utilize this method.  Especially when you consider how many games in the past year alone have added Gyro Aim for PS4/5.    And a lot of us have grown so accustomed to this mechanic, going back to stick aiming is nearly a no-go for a lot of us because of how much slower and clunky it is

    (https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/svbqnd/updated_playstation_list_of_games_with_gyro_aim/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Many more games on Nintendo and PC have natively added it as well.  Actually, Nintendo almost requires it at this point for their shooters seeing how 9 out 10 will now have Gyro Aim.  Splatton 2 did an amazing job popularizing it--devs stated that over 70% of the player base stuck with Gyro Aim a year after its release.

Xim matrix uses remote play but it strips out the audio and video signals to reduce lag.

If you know what a beloadrt pro do gle is, it uses the same method.

The other disadvantage is that tjis device can only trsnslate the rightstick to gyro value's. Wich will also use the ingame cuve and has aim assist and deadzones.

If done right then the gyro value's should be trsnslatrd to mouse value's. This vetsion of gyro is similar to the joystick mousr option in steam input.
