Re: Settings resets to default

For two days in a row now I have faced the same issue. I am level 58 now, and I've been playing since early access. The game basically resets ALL of my settings, and forced me to go through the initial settings process all over again. If that's not enough, I need to go through the whole conquest/all out warfare tutorial all over again. Is there an answer to this?

    Hi @Vacuity22

There are a couple things that could be causing this to happen.

First, I'd recommend checking your security software to make sure there's an exception for BF2042. Sometimes security programs can block the game from writing to the files it uses to save your in-game settings.

I'd also recommend checking to see if you have OneDrive (or another cloud backup program) installed. If so, it could be causing the settings to erase because the PROFSAVE_profile file is being overwritten by OneDrive.

@Vacuity22 same problem here. had this now every day, today was the first day without this. it happens just randomly, sometimes I restart the game after 2-3 hrs and then the settings reset.
you can alt + f4 out of the tutorial combat and launch the gam again to skip the mission atleast.
@EA_Kent: Using standard Windows Defender here, no exception as it works sometimes and sometimes not...

@tom_looken one drive might be installed by default, but it's not necessary and can be deactived.
so it's more like the rims you buy with your car, you do not need them essentially and you can just put them off

Yes you can turn it off but its core functionality will remain active in the background your just closing a door what is behind remains on/alive.

  • completely WRONG, why put blame on something to try to throw the blame away from the people who are actually responsible? dice IS to blame for this 100%, i tried EVERYTHING and none of it worked, even tried setting both exe files the 'launcher' which is in reality eac and the bf2042 exe as well to run as administrator and when i did that it wouldn't even launch the game. the eac would just open up origin. when i mean i tried everything, i mean EVERYTHING. all the 'fixes' didn't work. this bug was created by dice probably has something to do with the cache folder, mine got to over 1 gb. and this resetting started happening for people after the 2nd 'update/patch'. the fix is back up your settings folder to replace the files after you delete all of the 2042 settings folder from C drive, run the game like it's the first time running it, close copy and paste the backed up settings only folder and your game will be back to normal. worked for me and i closed and opened the game over 3 times to make sure my settings weren't getting reset. i feel that cause i played the game on the 12th it created some bugs for me cause of that OR it was the updates. this even fixed my specialists skins settings as well.

  • This happens to me on the PlayStation 5 all the time. This is definitely a dice problem.

  • Since the last update which is magnificent it must be said:

The game resets my settings, 3 times in two days and again this evening.
since this evening my mouse don't recognized at all, impossible to assign a touch.

Of course mice test on BF4 which works without problem.

Short Update here: friday night (after i played 4hrs on the new patch and restarted the game) some vehicle settings and my game settings were reset again, but since then not anymore as of today!

  • @direct3r nevermind this. it happened again after fiddling around with some graphics settings and resetted there twice... so annoying!

    Hey there,

    Thanks for the updates!

What happens if you start up your PC in a Clean Boot before you launch BF2042? If there's anything else running in the background that could be causing issues with the settings being saved that may help to narrow it down.

For more information on how to set up a Clean Boot check out the EA Help website. Once you have the chance to give it a shot please let me know how it goes. Thanks!

  • @EA_Kent Is this all a stupid joke? It is a problem that is from the beta and they have not solved it, I have a ps5 console, not a pc. It is a big problem for the whole community.
  • I have the same issue but on PC.

I keep getting forced to go through calibration and watch that stupid fkin intro over and over.
i'm so frustrated, even more frustrated by this than any other issue the game has.
FIX IT DICE / EA WTF!

  • Hi all,

    I'm on PC.

I have this bug since the launch.

It has anoyed me for days... I've loocked in every forums and the only "solutions" proposed are to look on OneDrive or the Anti virus.... I've tried everything and it doesn't work.

Sometimes i am lucky and the game will launch in normal way, but most of the time it reset my bindings and launch from the beginning with warning on epilepsy and tutorial...

And even if it doesn't, i will have my screen resolution downed from 1080p to 1024 in a windowed mode.

My game pretty never launch as it should do.

We can't solve it by ourself, seing the same problem for console players make it more obvious than it was.

Until Dice does something, and as they don't recongnise the problem it may takes ages. I have a silly but usefull temporary help for PC players.

It doesn't solve it, but i would have uninstall the game if i had to rebind everything every time i want to play.

    - Launch your game, rebind all your fonctions and preference as you want. Stay in the main menu.

    - Don't close the game, press Alt+enter to return to your desk.

    - Go to Documents --> Battlefield 2042 --> settings.

    - Copy the PROFSAVE files (you'll find 2 files) to make a back up. I place them on my desk near my game launcher as i use them all the time

    - Now when you'll launch your game, if it reset your bindings, just Alt+F4. Copy paste your saved PROFSAVE files to replace the ones corrupted in the setting file.

    - Re launch the game and it should work. In rare occasions i had to do it 2 or 3 times before it worked but at least i didn't had to check 50 pages of settings ingame to rebind everything again and again.

It won't solve the problem, but this allow me to play at last.

    Dice please !

omfg it just happened again, wish i read your post before....
man i hate this game forreal with such things

  • Had the same after moving the game to a new drive. After half a dozen restarts and tutorial frustration I finally resolved it by deleting my profile from \Users\<username>\Documents\Battlefield 2042\settings. Origin then brought my profile down and the game went into the menu as normal.

@DVDF_Roostah, good to hear that this workaround has solved the issue for you. Hope it stays like this.

If you see it happening again, feel free to update the thread here.
  • I'm really happy that this bug has been solved with the latest patch, it almost made me insane to re-do almost every setting or rollback to my backuped ones...

@direct3r, yeah I can imagine that it was very frustrating. If you experience it again in the future though, feel free to let us know!
  • fixed? since the last patch i had it at least 6 of 10 days playing, so not really fixed

the fix for me was to use the standard origin client instead of the (thin) client which steam is starting when origin is not running

i admit i have a strange constellation where the software is installed:

-win11 is installed on SSD (this SSD is only for windows, office, drivers and some tools like Origin)

-Document folder is moved to a separate HDD (if i need to reinstall windows the data is still there without playing back my backup)

-game is installed on an SSD which I use only for games

-Steam is on another HDD (4TB for games which don’t need a SSD for gaming like single player games or older, smaller games)

So, it seems that there more factors which can cause this issue

  • @CountSero Your HDD/SSD setup is identical to mine. Only difference is that I don't run it from Steam. Sounds like there's no definite answer to this issue. That said, I've not had any problems since I updated this thread last.
