Re: DirextX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

Hello!

I found out that Windows was automatically installing a much older version of the graphics card driver using their automatic driver device download which resulted in not having a full clean install of the graphics card driver after running the DDU software in Windows safe mode.

I was able to really reduce this error by noticing that Windows will automatically try to install a display graphics driver automatically. This is usually a version that is not the latest out there which could have resulted in the device driver hanging.

We all have heard that using DDU (Display Driver Uninstall) can vastly help with graphics driver related errors, however it does us no good if Windows decides to install a baseline Nvidia or AMD driver before the installation completion of the latest driver.

Here is how I was able to reduce the error. Keep in mind that I already had the latest driver downloaded prior to performing these steps.

  1. Temporarily disabled Windows automatic driver downloads. To do so perform the following:
    1. On Windows bring up the Control Panel and either search for “device installation settings” or find it under “Devices and Printers” and click on “Change device installation settings. This will bring up a new dialog box.
    2. Select the radial button of “No (your device might not work as expected” and save the changes. Note: you will need to by a system administrator to make the change.
  2. Temporarily disabled my internet connection (as a backup per-caution) by performing a command prompt ipconfig /release and unplugged my ethernet cable.
  3. Booted into Windows Safe mode.
  4. Performed the DDU uninstallation of the graphics card driver.
  5. Rebooted back into Windows and installed the latest graphics card driver.
  6. Re-connected my ethernet cable and performed a command prompt ipconfig /renew
  7. Re-enabled the device installation settings back to “Yes (recommended)” by going back to the device installation settings within the control panel.
  8. Launched Battlefield 2042

I have played for several days now with multiple friends and none of us have had the graphics driver crash on us. Hopefully this can help you!
