HIGH CPU USAGE 70-90+ cant find fix

CPU usage in game spikes to 90+, Averages around 70-80 on low settings. in Destiny 2 (for example) i can run the game on high and it would barely go above 40%. I have no idea what's causing this, I have updated drivers and reinstalled the game on my SSD (was on HDD) and played around with the in game settings to no avail. Can play the game on medium to high settings as well but that changes nothing in terms of CPU usage. GPU is also being used properly so its not one of the HIGH CPU LOW GPU problems i have seen online. i have attached task manager screenshots of what I'm seeing. If anyone can see anything in the processors that stands out to them of what might be causing the problem please help!

  • I got it working!!!!!

Turn off FUTURE FRAME RENDERING !!!!!

I have made a ton of tweaks here and there, but the biggest problem is this one setting.

    Go to:

    • Options
    • Display
    • Video
    • near the bottom is FUTURE FRAME RENDERING
    • Turn it OFF

I have been able to play and it's not bad at all.  This one setting is really hard on your pc's CPU.

There are times when I've been playing fine, and one day it's crap again.  I go and check, and somehow this one feature was turned back on.    I turn it off, and I can play again.

  • @BeditssTTVHi, 2042 is very CPU intensive. 6 cores at 4ghz, it would definitely be pushing that chip. Something you may want to check is that your power settings are not in performance mode as well as windows itself. Found this to drop temps by 10 degrees on a 12700k. I was too hitting temps in the 90s before I changed it. Couldn't see how many processes were running there but always worth a look through to see if you can uninstall anything you don't use that's running in the background.

Edit: sorry, just noticed you have 239 processes running. I'm sure you could cut that down quite abit to give the CPU some breathing space. Hope this helps.

  • Hi @BeditssTTV, CPU is at 90% usage but battlefield is only on 50 ish %, recommend turning off background programs. System taking 10% seems a lot, was it running some sort of windows update or?

@MadishMike no idea what to stop running, its basically a brand new PC and majority of it is windows... currently running battlefield 2042 and its idling around 50 whilst I'm replying here with every other process being at a 00 -0..7 with steam and system being 2-5. the game runs perfectly. no lag or anything.. its just concerning see that the CPU is under so much strain and im confused what is either causing it or contributing too it..

@BeditssTTVHello, if you would like, send me a screenshot of your processes. Happy to have a look. Might have to do it over a couple of pic's 😁

Also how are your temps just out of interest?

Some new pcs depending on who manufactured it,can be filled with bloatware and unnecessary programs.

  • @BeditssTTV Besides FFR, I did the following:

Other things that worked for me was to go into the BF config file and change:
    weapon_dof to 0
    shadow_quality to 0
    DX_12 to 1
    DLSS to 1

Hope you can get it working.

@BeditssTTVHello, so sorry but the res is so low I can't see it properly. Did download them too to see if it would clean them up. 70c, that's good so no worries there.

From what I can see, it looks like the CPU isn't under so much load today 53%. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a update going on in the background originally. Maybe maintenance. You can see the disk was being utilised heavily by the system. Did notice just now desktop windows manager was very busy too on your original pic. Is that still the case? Can put windows in performance mode(system/advanced settings/performance) to cut down on window visual effect rather than letting windows decide.
