Re: Battlefield Games Will Not Launch

@LeadM4gnet

You will need to enable to view hidden files and folders in Windows to go to the ProgramData folder. It is hidden by Windows by default.

You have to have this ProgramData folder, it's required by Windows. You have to have this Electronic Arts\License folder as well, it's required by Denuvo.

    Ah! Thanks for clarifying that step. I had turned on invisible files in the wrong folder earlier. And thank you for helping me with this, you're a legend! Steam support is nonexistent if you don't ask for a refund within two weeks of purchase.

    This time I saw six files in that EA License folder and removed them all. I did not delete the folder, just the files.

    I then restarted my computer to stop all EA processes and services. I didn't force quit because I was afraid something might be corrupted.

    I launched the Steam app and tried to launch BFV. All looked good at first, then a window opened that said "The app crashed unexpectedly but a quick restart should fix it." It didn't. When I click the restart button it opens a clear window with no visible content I attached a screenshot.

    Questions:

    1. I looked in the Program Files\Electronic Arts folder again and saw no License folder this time. Was a step supposed to replace that when I restarted, or should I create a new License folder and leave it empty?

    2. In Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop there are two folders, both with today's date. Should I delete one or both?

    1) EA Desktop

    2) outdatedEADesktop

    3. When I uninstalled all three games and both EA and Steam apps shouldn't that have removed all the bad license files anyway?

    4. What do you suggest I try now?

    Thanks again,

    You know, I don't want to bother you with a list of questions so I just uninstalled everything again and restarted my computer. I'll try another fresh install and see if that cleans things up. I'll let you know what happens....

    OK, I completely uninstalled everything again and restarted my computer. Then reinstalled EA & Steam apps and BFV. Same problem.

    Now my C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts folder only has an EA Desktop folder in it. No other folders. No License folder anywhere.

    I'm stumped.

  • Good question! Yeah, it's still enabled - no other folders show up in this file path

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop

    Thanks for asking,

    @LeadM4gnet Yeah it's not Program Files, it's "ProgramData" - it's a hidden folder.

    I'm not sure why the DRM check is failing for you, that's outside of my team's remit, I can just see the error in the logs.

    I'm sorry - my bad. Now that I'm looking in the right place... C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services\License

    I can now see 6 .dlf files, 3 are caches of the other 3.

    Do you have any idea who I can ask about getting my DRM cleaned up? Is that Someone at EA or Steam?

    Thanks again for your help. If I can get this sorted out I'll spread the word....

    Hey, man!

    I've been away from this problem for a long time but I finally had time to back everything up, delete all game files, and do a full fresh Windows install on my laptop. I wanted to let you know that seems to have solved it.

    TBH it took way longer than I thought it would because it didn't sit well with my HP Victus when I tried the new install. I had to troubleshoot some issues before it would install. Tonight I got around to reinstalling BF V AND IT RUNS! I'm finally back in the fight.

    I wanted to thank for helping when I was about ready to delete Steam and forget the whole thing when they were no help. I still don't know what the problem was -- but tomorrow I'll try reinstalling BF1 and see if that runs, then if it does, BF 2042.

    Thanks again, and Happy New Year to you, brother!

    @LeadM4gnet Good NewYear

    A fresh new windows install every year (or 2 year) is not bad/wrong at all.
    |Dont use 3rd party cleaning tools (registry cleanup apps ect ect ect), it will damage windows config at the long term !!!
    Also better dont use a 3rd party virus scnner/firewall app, WINDOWS DEFENDER is good as any other 3rd party tool !!

    Have Fun and Game On!

    Cheers
