I just had this same error code and found that the EA servers were down (reported by over 2,000 people on downdetector.com).  However, when I went to EA's website to check if their servers were down, they claimed they weren't.  I feel like the problem is that the servers went down and EA tries to hide this.  They even implied that it was my internet connection then recommended I uninstall/reinstall the app.  After hitting "retry" for about 30 minutes, I'm finally back in (servers are back up).
