@Roche__0_o So instead of taking game modes away, just leave them all in the game for people to play. If you like 64 player modes, you get to play them and if you like 128 player modes, you get to play them. Pretty damn simple really. At least you would think so.

I really dunno the true reason why they remove these things... but the only thing that would make any sense at all to me is that they are very concerned about watering down the populated servers available to play on, since the player counts have been notoriously low?
The more modes and options for playing that they leave in, the more difficult it will be to find servers that are well populated because the player base at any given moment may get too spread out amongst so many different types of servers/modes.
This doesn't effect me, however, since I don't mind playing against the PvP bots, which might fill those empty servers. but it seems to me that hardcore PvP players don't appreciate this and consider it a game killing experience.
