Lag compensation is wonky. Sometimes it gives you an advantage and sometimes it puts you at a disadvantage. It's so random.
If I feel like lag compensation has me at a disadvantage I'll reboot my PC. 🙄

Actually a great post. A console player trying out the game on PC and realizes that it is 10 times easier to get kills despite the aim assist on console?
I still prefer console but would love to play console only lobbies with controllers only.

@Kona_ukI've felt like this was the case for a very long time now. Destiny 2 was peer to peer, but felt very similar. People that would use a VPN to one location, playing from another, then finally connecting to another country would basically be untouchable. While BF and other games have dedicated servers, they write the code to try and to ensure everyone has a "fair" experience. The problem like you said is using VPN's and fluctuating bad personal connections like wifi.
It's so frustrating. Overall I do well, but man do I have to work at it. I have to predict every thing, prefire, actively listen to foot steps, use tugs, move around like a maniac, and absolutely use cover in the most advantageous way. Those are things everyone should be doing, but if I blink at the wrong time, I die. Over 50% of my deaths feel cheap. I see someone, use cover, start hitting them without missing, they then have enough time to turn and one shot me with literally any weapon in the game. Every gun might as well be a shotgun, because everything registers in one packet almost exclusively. - @RaginSam My experience exactly it’s just so horrible to have to play like that.
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@RaginSam Between the horrible network compensation and VPNs, some rounds are virtually unplayable. Last night is a perfect example. Joined a crossplay off TDM server, about 7-8 real people and AI backfill. Had a ping of 27 (typical) and an average server latency of 38 (little bit high but normal). Suddenly the server felt slower, and I see the ALAT is now 60, spiking up to 75. When that happens, you know a new player has joined, and sure enough a new player was on the list. This new player could hardly be touched. He quickly was able to catch up to the top of the scoreboard and bullets seemed to just miss him. He wasn’t snapping or anything, I don’t believe he was hacking in any way, but what he was doing was taking advantage of his connection to the game. Why EA / Dice try and accommodate the high ping players by basically punishing everyone else in the server is stupid. Why is there no ping limiter in this game? We used to be able to see it in the scoreboard, you’d know when a 300 ping player came in and know what was going to happen. I can’t hit targets when the average server has a 45 or higher ALAT, so my only choice is to leave and try and find a server that doesn’t have a high ping player. The matchmaking SUCKS. It’s too bad the player count doesn’t allow all players to have a similar ping in a region so they matchmake from outside the regions and that crap has to stop. Fix the netcode, stop high pings, and for Gods sake give us a server browser.

@ATFGunrIt’s so bad at times! I have guys jumping out from cover blind and one shot me while I’m head-glitching a spot. Meanwhile, nearly every time I jump wide out of cover I die before my feet touch the ground. Then there’s the walking turret type player, walking around hard ADS, eat half my mag, then kill me in one tick update.
There’s nothing to learn or improve on in those scenarios. It’s so demoralizing. I’m a sweaty try hard that consciously picks equipment in order to have low latency. I put in so much effort to lower any sort of latency and input lag into my system, then comes along someone playing on a TV, with a controller, with half my frame rate, but regardless feels like an impossible opponent. Just because they probably have 200-300 ping!
In the end it’s for sales, and I have no idea how we can motivate these companies to focus on actual fair gameplay. They just want to include every potential customer, so they write net code to accommodate even the worst connections.
Absolutely infuriating.
