C&C RED ALERT 2/YURI'S REVENGE TECH ISSUE?
So as I start up the new (FREE) download of C&C RED ALERT 2 for PC, I've noticed I can't even start up the game without a black screen. I feel it's becoming an issue for a few of my EA games and I don't quite know, nor am I sure if it's my graphics card or anything. Do I not have enough power in my pc? I have an ASUS laptop with NVIDE GEFORE AND a CORE i7 intel Processor. In the event of start up when I open the game, screen turns completely black and gameplay isn't an option. I can't access the menu screen or anything in either RED ALERT 2 OR YURI'S REVENGE. It's quite irritating! Any information on these issues or resolutions, please let me know! MUCH APPRECIATED! >xC
The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve the "black screen" issue for many people.
Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.As far as I know, the bug is just caused by incompatibilities (or rather, scrapped undocumented features these old games tended to use) in the DirectX 16-bit colour mode the game uses, so it's not because of your PC. Remember, this game is more than 10 year old; any modern PC is far overqualified to run it, but sadly, that causes problems just as well.
