Sadly, this mindset is completely, completely wrong. Minimal specs don't mean anything for old games. They have way more chance to simply not work well on systems that are far newer than the one they were designed for.
As for your problem, there are a couple of things you can try...
- The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve graphics issues. Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.
- Open the properties of the game's executable (yuri.exe/ra2md.exe) and go to the compatibility tab. Make sure to disable the "Disable Display Scaling On High DPI Settings" option. For RA2/YR, it's also advised to run the game in Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode.
