Re: PC Performance (FPS drops, Stuttering)

@EA_Illium any update about the traversal stuttering on PC? It would be nice if you are interacting a little bit more with your audience.

It's absolutely shameful that the stuttering hasn't been fixed, with the wealth of resources available to EA this should have been fixed within a week.

    Hey Everyone,

Thanks for letting us know about your experience with Dead Space.

I wanted to check if anyone is still encountering issues with FPS or Stuttering.

If so can you confirm the following...

    • Do you have the latest windows and GPU updates?
    • Are you on an SSD?
    • Is anything else running?
    • Can you try another Windows profile and check if the performance is the same?
    • Are you doing any overclocking or do you have any software that controls input or overlays running?
    • What kind of FPS drops are you currently seeing?
    • Where does the game stutter for you?

    Thanks!

  • Why is this still not fixed EA come on with the patch!

    Traversal and streaming related stutters

The game suffers from frequent stutters when the player crosses invisible boundaries in the game, like opening a door or when walking around. This is likely caused by the game inefficiently loading in the next area, causing a large frame time spike, which is perceived as a stutter. While traversal stutter may also happen on console, it is believed to be exacerbated on PC. The more powerful the PC is, the less frequent and intense these stutters become.

Shader compilation stutters in some rare cases

Shader compilation stutters can possibly trigger during gameplay after changing graphical settings. Additionally, there are strong suspicions that the game's shader pre-compilation is not fully exhaustive in pre-compiling all shaders used by the game. This can lead to some rare shader compilation related stutters.

    Inconsistent performance between runs

The same in-game scene can sometimes run with different performance between runs for unknown reasons. This happens even after changing no in-game settings and a full PC system reboot.

Lower performance and random performance drops after changing graphical settings

Performance can go lower than expected after changing graphical settings in the in-game menu.

Shader pre-compilation does not trigger when reinstalling same GPU driver version

After reinstallation of same GPU driver version, the game's shader cache will be deleted as intended, but the game does not trigger shader pre-compilation at boot after this. Leading to huge shader compilation related stutters during gameplay.

And the list goes on and on..

  • @EA_Illium at this point it's very surprising that you still have to ask whether players are still experiencing stutters.

It is well established now that *Everyone* is getting the same stuttering issues in this game, irrespective of hardware. They are traversal type stutters as I am sure you're aware, which are freezes/pauses that occur throughout the whole game whilst moving around the ship.

Please see this video for a thorough analysis of the issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvQl7EDPRC4&t=297s

I acknowledge that some players do not perceive the issue as being too bad, but for people like me who are very sensitive to stuttering in games, this problem absolutely ruins the experience. So far I have NOT been able to enjoy this game AT ALL, and it is not good enough.

Answers to your questions for what it's worth:

    • Do you have the latest windows and GPU updates? Yes - Win11 22H2, Build 22621.1413
    • Are you on an SSD? Yes, an M.2 Gen4 SSD
    • Is anything else running? No
    • Can you try another Windows profile and check if the performance is the same? Makes no difference to the issue
    • Are you doing any overclocking or do you have any software that controls input or overlays running? No overclocking, No overlays
    • What kind of FPS drops are you currently seeing? Constant frametime spikes, varying in length, sometimes even as large as 1 second or more
    • Where does the game stutter for you? Throughout - whilst moving around the ship
  • There has not been any patch or patch notes about the stuttering everyone including digital foundry have noted since release and you are asking if it magically went away?
I am so angry at EA / Motive (not you as a community manager) that the refund window has long gone for most of us and we don't have any hope.

This is why the companies rep stays in the bin. I can't believe after all the effort that went into this remake I took a chance and spent the money. I don't care if EA feels the game under-performed. 10s of if not 100s of thousands of players paid full price for the game at release months ago. EA took the money - EA need to fix the game. It is that simple....
Someone actually go chat with the devs not pay forum posters aka CUSTOMERS lip service or silence....
