Re: C&C Generals + Zero hour windows 10 problems

@zozza112

'have tried everything' is a really vague thing to say, if you don't actually list everything you tried.

Two of the main causes of these problems are

  • Lack of user rights
  • Missing settings files

For the first, in the game executables' compatibility setting, make sure that "run this program as Administrator" is set.

For the second, open the Windows file explorer, type "%userprofile%" into the top bar and press enter, and open the "My Documents" folder in there. You should end up inside a folder with a path something like "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\". In there, check for folders called "Command and Conquer Generals Data" and "Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data", and create them if they don't exist. Then check if a file called "options.ini" exists in each one of these folders. If not, create them, using the template shown in this sticky thread.

  • Hey sorry i didnt list "everything" I tried. I basically did both of the options you listed. The game is set to run as administrator, and I did change the options file a few times, just tampering with it then changing it back when it does not work. the game is from origin, I bought it less than 2 years ago, the game worked fine on my laptop though origin for the first half of 2016 then it stopped working. I uninstalled the game and origin many times trying to reset whatever I might have done, but it didnt work. I tried pasting some of the options files I found online from other people but that didnt work either. I got a copy of the game from a friend to try it on my computer and I did everything he did to install it and get it to run but it still never worked, and he has a very similar computer to mine (windows 10 also). No matter what I tried the game wont launch. It starts with the blue square box that says zerohour and then loads, screen turns black as if the game will play, but then it cuts to the desktop and gives me the "technical difficulties" message every single time. I do not have viruses and my laptop is working fine. I dont know why it wont play when it was working fine before. Sorry for the ramble i just want to explain the situation as much as I can. If there's anything I am missing please let me know.

    Edit: I also checked the firewall settings/ antivirus settings to make sure nothing is stopping the game. also, the copy of the game I got from my friend worked on his laptop, my brother's computer, and my other brother's pc, which is also win10 64 bit. It worked for everyone else but not me. I might be forgetting other methods I checked or did but If i remember more ill keep editing.
