Re: Censorship: It is ridi****us

@ActionMartini

It's been reported to the devs, yes.

You can disable the censor filter in the game options.

  • Thanks, not quite the solution one would want but I guess it's better than seeing like 30 asterisks in case you want to talk to your opponent

  • At some point developers around the world are going to have to realise they can't solve the Scunthorpe problem, and should probably stop trying in ways that make games worse...

Even turning Profanity Filter OFF, doesn't effect Map ID's. Maps with names that contain words on that filter still get censored. The ANT WAR Maps, Alpha and Bravo, both of them I think get censored (@GENERALZOOL is the Map creator for those Maps).

The funniest moment is when you try to tell someone a number of units, for example: "There are about 600 Enemy Units detected on the other side of the River" it will filter out the number '600' from the text. It gets worse when you actually use uncommon language to describe things, but the alternative context of the words you use means they get censored (Erect, verb - In this context, to build or construct a Structure or Base in a location), Yes, I've this exact thing happen to me with that word, but I couldn't think of the word 'Build' and the word 'Construct' was too long. Then we've got the classic 'Anything that contains A followed by S and another S' equals Stars.

Sometimes, you can be having a conversation, particularly if that conversation is about Engineering, and half of what you say is censored.

    Dictionary Definition:
S - LAG (join the word together), is the glass-like by-product left over after a desired metal has been separated (i.e., smelted) from its raw ore. S### is usually a mixture of metal oxides and silicon dioxide.

BAS - TA - RD Cut File, this is term to describe a Flat Filing Tool, often referred to by the inappropriate term. My teacher at School used the common term not the actual name for the tool in question. It even turned up in my Engineering exam.

That's just two examples, there is a literal mine-field of them. That's me being nit-picky, but how many words have 'S - LAG' contained within them, 2 words contain those letters in sequentially order that are actually both terms that are actually used in other games and in engineering.

I'd go into other examples, such as 'Sw###y' (to describe something as fashionable - Uncommon word), the contained word is censored for good reason, but the full word is a legitimate word.

My personal Favourite is 'Wristwatch' which contains 'T###' within it. Also 'Saltwater' contains the same word.

Point is, if you're going to have the function at all, make sure it takes context into account.

Now you're just taking the 'inspissate'.

Definition (in Science Chemistry) of 'inspissate': To undergo thickening or cause to thicken, as by boiling or evaporation; condense.
  • If it only just checked for individual offensive words (And just actually offensive words) it would be more or less alright, but it searches for the text even across multiple words, I had 3 words censored in a row because they formed the "offensive" text between the three of them

    Why is 600 offensive anyway????

I still don't know, the number 900 is the same. I think it's a thing in places located in the middle-east, but I have no idea.
