Re: DA:I The game resets all settings to default each time I play

If you are using a Windows utility called MKLink to redirect DAI to look for your save files on another drive, DAI seems to ignore the MKLink redirect. So upon finding no ProfileOptions file, it resets everything to default.

Unfortunately some programs ignore MKLink and DAI is one of them. You will have to leave your files where DAI expects to find them.

  • Thank you very much for your reply. Sadly I don't think this covers my issue. I'm not using any software like that, and all of my Origin games, saves, etc etc, are completely default.

I've tested it a bit today, so far it only seems to occur when I reboot, which isn't often, this rig stays on 24/7, but lately I've needed to for updates/drivers.

Something must be up with the game install then, because all the graphic settings and keybindings are stored in My Documents>Bioware>Dragon Age inquisition>Save in 2 files caled ProfileOptions and ProfileOptions_Options (I believe, going off the top of my head).

If those files are being deleted or somehow can't be found by the game, then I would expect your issues.

I would suggest then try running a repair on the game (in Origin, right click on DAI in "My Games" and choose repair). Perhaps the Windows updates messed with the registry, and DAI just needs to reset something.

Just a shot in the dark but it sounds like it could be a write permissions error. Have you tried launching the game as an administrator?

  • Testing now, may take some time for me to be certain either way. Gonna try forcing it to run as admin.

    @MajorE666

Have you tried to repair the game? I know that's probably the first thing you tried, but I have to ask. If that fails, could you please post a DxDiag? It may contain more relevant information than just a basic overview of your specs.

    Hi Man.

    tnx for the reply.

I ran the game repair yesterday and since I have  this hasn't happened, but it is still early days.. I will give it a couple more days to be sure.

If I still have a problem I will revert back with the Dxdiag

    thanks!!

    Hi man,

    how are you?

the problem I described keeps coming back, I just didn't have the time to deal with it.

the game settings keeps getting back to default, around twice a week..

I ran a game repair but that didn't help obviously..

    attached is the DxDiag.

    any ideas?

     tnx for the help!!

Options are stored in your Users, DAI, Saves folder, two files...profileoptions  and   profioleoptions_options.

My first thoughts are one, not running origin and DAI as administrator and they are having issues writing in this location.

Two, is antivirus program is "fixing" this as an on going issue it has with DAI, so need to add exceptions/exclusions for your DAI folder in users as well as the one you probably already have in programs and for Origin itself.

Third thought is you have altered the default location of the users folder and the game doesn't like it...

    hey man,

    tnx for the help!

you are speaking Chinese to me 🙂

when you say DAI folder what do you mean? i havent seen any folder by that name..

i searched my computer and i have no profileoptions and profileoptions_options folders anywhere..

the game is installed on a seprate SSD drive i have just for it. Origin is installed on C.. maybe that's the issue?

btw, i have this set up (bf4 on a seprate ssd) for some time now and the issues started only recntly..

    thanks!

    C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition\Save

That is the standard location for saves and in that folder is the two files....  profileoptions and profileoptions_options.

@MajorE666 Yes, you have. 😉 This is the Dragon Age Inquisition board (as signified by all the 'DAI' and 'Dragon Age Inquisition's everywhere). You're looking for the BF4 board, which can be found here. Good luck 🙂 (And please take a look at the stickies over there, they might have a solution for your problem).

    @MajorE666

It's another shot in the dark, but can you check the properties on the save folder in your Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age Inquisition > Save folder? Can you check to see if the permissions on the folder are read only? If so, can you remove that option and try again?
