Re: Monitor going on and off when starting the game and switching worlds

Hey there!

This seems to me that it's your monitor going out of its range.

It means your system display card settings are too high for your monitor. Boot your system into safe mode and set the display settings lower. Right mouse button click on an empty space on your desktop and go to properties. Then settings->advanced and you should be able to adjust the vertical frequency down to 60hz or 72hz. If not, then go to the monitor tab and load a generic monitor driver.
One time, I bought a repackaged display card that had been set too high and I had to reload the card driver in safe mode to get it to work correctly.

Give that a go and see what happens and then come back to me if the problems still happens.

It was set at 59hz before for some reason.  I set my monitors back to 60hz, but no change in behavior.  Any reason it would be at 59hz, instead of 60?

    Any other suggestions?

every time I change it from 59 to 60 it keeps reverting back to 59.  Any reason why?

also, this only happens in Dragon Age, no other game.  Why do you think that is?  Thanks for your help by the way

Have you put vertical sync on? So it matches your monitors refresh rate? This can ease flickering.

I have vertical sync on.  To be clear there is no flickering during gaming.  The monitors just go on and off at the beginning of the game when I start it up (maybe 2 or 3 times), and press start at the main menu (it just goes on and off once).  Also, they turn on and off once when changing locations on the map.  Luckily during gameplay the monitors stay on.

Dragon Age turning the monitor on and off isn't hurting anything in my computer is it?

*By turning off, I mean the screen goes black, but the monitor led light is still on.

It's shouldn't be having any effect on the lifespan or consistency of your drivers. I doubt that it is having a negative effect on the operation of your machine either.

Thanks for your help.  Glad to hear it won't mess up my machine.  I appreciate everything!
