Re: Dragon Age Inquisition Freezing Since Last Update

Helps to know what system you're on. 😉 If you're on PC, please post a dxdiag and mention any mods you're using, if any. 🙂

I'm also having this problem on my PC. I tried to load into my game (currently in Crestwood also), both with and without mods, I also tried repairing the game. Didn't work for either, it just froze at loading screen with broken sound.

I followed your instructions, I hope this came out right.

@Pandoxitty Might be nothing, but do you know why your NVidia is showing up twice under display devices? Struck me as odd.
I'm guessing (hoping) you have Inquisition installed on your F drive?
Other than that I see nothing to worry about in there, someone else more knowledgeable might come along though. 😛

When you tried the game without mods, did you remove the mod patch folder and change your package.mft file, or did you create a blank 'merged' folder? Also assuming you're using the latest version of mod manager? Remember you have to tick the 'force rescan of patch' box the first time you use it with patch 11.

Can you load saves in other locations? (Not saying to go back and play from an old save, just wondering if it's Crestwood specific).

Strange that these problems have come out now, when the game hasn't been updated in a while. Also strange they're happening in Crestwood for both of you.

I have no idea, maybe it's because of my second monitor? Not sure. ):

And yep! Inquisition is installed on my F drive.

I removed the mod patch folder then did a blank merged folder. And yep, using the latest mod manager. But the thing was that when I went to play on my other character not stuck in crestwood, the mods worked perfectly fine and the game let me in. It's frustrating since Crestwood is necessary to progress. :/ I'll try to go back in with the forced rescan.

So I tried it again today with a forced patch rescan and no go, it still freezes at loading screen into Crestwood.

Try just deleting the mod folder altogether, do a repair, then, in your update > patch folder, modify package.mft (with notepad is easiest) and increase the version number by one (this is so you can load your saves, as the merged patch file contains its own package.mft file with a higher version number. It *should* be at 12, so increase it to 13). That will rule out mod issues completely. Also, while you have a clean game, make a copy of your patch folder, always handy to have a 'vanilla' patch handy when you're using mods. Remember to change your package.mft version number back before merging mods (or if another patch ever comes out), makes it easier to keep track.

Well, at least we know the problem is contained to Crestwood... Which is really weird. And this has been happening since the last patch in October? Maybe someone like @EA_David (sorry, first name to pop into my head) could provide more suggestions? 😛

I actually FINALLY got into Crestwood! i loaded an auto save and cut a few hours of progress. Everything ran fine, but when I went back to Skyhold and tried to fast travel to Caer Bronach specifically it would freeze again. I think it's literally just Caer Bronach having the issue (for me at least.) Any other fast travel location on Crestwood is fine.

The OP's issue was with Caer Bronach, too. Weird. Can you walk there like normal without crashing/freezing? (Not that it really matters once you've picked up the quests and war table mission, I guess. Oh, and gone to the dam thing).
