Re: DAI Patch Issue

I'm guessing you had used mods at some point in the saved games you are trying to load. That changes the patch number in DAI Install Directory/Dragon Age Inquisition/Update/Patch/ package (the MFT file there) Default for a fully patched game is 12 but, mods change that and, the game won't load those saves until you change that patch number to at least 13, possibly higher if the mods you created those saves with made that patch number higher.

Setting it to 14 or 15 won't hurt. Just use Notepad to edit that file and, do save a copy of the original to a safe location, just in case you ever need to go back.

@FrankenKitty67 @DarkAmaranth1966 Note, mods do not change the package.mft file in the Patch folder, the mod manager creates its own folder (default name is Patch_ModManagerMerge) which contains its own package.mft file with the version number set one higher than the one in your Patch folder (this is so the game will use the mod folder instead of the patch folder; the mod folder contains everything in the patch folder as well as all your mods).
If you have patch 11 installed, your package.mft in your Patch folder should say version 12. If you have used mods in the past and no longer have them (and don't intend to use any again), you can edit this file using notepad (you should only have to set it at 13). Just remember that the version number is baked into your saves, so you will always have to have a version number equal to or greater than what you're using in order to play those saves, so if you set it to a high number, remember that number.
Also, if you have mods, or intend to put them back in, don't have the package.mft files in your Patch folder and your mod folder set to the same number, your patch folder should always be lower. I recommend setting it back to 12 before doing a new mod merge if you've changed it at any point, this will keep your mod folder at 13, easy to remember if you stop playing the game for an extended period of time. 😉

Some areas in the game (mostly DLC areas, also one area in the main game) do not like certain mods (or types of mods), some people find it easiest to remove their mod folder in these instances. This will require either modifying the package.mft file or, as many people do, creating an empty mod merge (with just the patch folder selected, remember to move your 'proper' mod folder out of the Update directory before doing the merge), which can be switched out with your mod folder whenever you come across one of these locations, negating the need for package.mft editing. Some people find the empty mod merge method easier, others find it easier to do it the package.mft file way.

  • I know this thread is super old, but I encountered this problem today... How exactly do I change the patch number higher? I can't find anywhere a spot to change it.

EDIT. Okay so I was able to change the version but now my mods don't show up. What can I do?

  • If you use mods go to your modmanager and make sure your mods are how you want them, then click merge and let the files merge. Once completed the patch will be updated. To the game if you played the game with mods uniinstall then reinstall then to the game the patch is out of date, even when the patch is the most current. I had the probelm too. Once I remerged my mods the way I liked them the issue was resolved.
