Re: (PS4) Possible Armor/Schematics Bug?

OK, so I couldn't seem to find any pictures that showed what the armours are supposed to look like, so I used my own character (also a Dalish mage).

There are 3 superior tier 3 armours for each class in the base game. For mages, those are Superior Battlemage Armour, Superior Battlemage Coat and Superior Battlemage Mail. Personally I use the tier 4 version of the coat from JoH (there is no tier 4 version of the armour for some reason), so I didn't remember which was which. 😛 It looks like your mage is wearing the correct armour.

There are some lower tier ones that look different, I think because they're lower tier and therefore supposed to look less... armour-y? The lower tier coat, for example, is much shorter.

Sturdy and superior are to do with the quality of armour within the tiers (and in some cases have an effect on appearance). Coat, Mail and armour are different types (they have different looks and offer different material slots for defence or utility). Enchanter/battlemage etc tell you what tier it is. The Superior/Sturdy Enchanter Armour is the same as the Superior Battlemage Armour, only it doesn't have the plate (probably to show that it offers less defence). The normal Battlemage Armour (the one that doesn't have Sturdy or Superior in front of it) also looks the same.

Hope that explains it. 🙂

  • Thank you for the response, but he isn't wearing the correct armour! I worded that pretty badly, sorry.

But if you look at the screenshot of your mage in the Battlemage Armour, under the chestplate with the Inquisition insignia, she has on a scarf (and shirt). Meanwhile, mine has an armour... vest of sorts. Not really sure of the proper term for it.

You can see it better in the Enchanter Armour he is wearing, where the Inquisition chestplate is not there. It should be the normal shirt, or a shirt+scarf, I believe.

But all the rogue (prowler/hunter) and warrior (battlemaster/vanguard) armours in my game using this "armour" model (the "mail" and "coat" versions work fine!), look exactly the same as that too, using the armour vest.

Which is why I am thinking it might be a bug.

Now that you've pointed it out (and maybe because I'm less tired 😛 ), I can see the difference in the pictures.

    What system are you on?
If you're on PC and using mods, any 'pyjama' mod (one that changes your basic skyhold outfit) will change how some light armours appear on your character. The 'Enchanter Armour' (without sturdy or superior in front of it) is a tier 2 version of the Battlemage armour, which shows the pyjamas under the jacket instead of a breastplate.

I don't think it should make a difference, but have you changed your Skyhold outfit with the wardrobe, perhaps to one of the armours? (As far as I'm aware, the light armours still use the default outfit regardless of what you've chosen with the wardrobe, but... wouldn't hurt to look?).

Also, I apologise, I couldn't see the face of your Inquisitor very well and you didn't mention the gender, I thought it was a female, I'm unsure if the armours look significantly different on male inquisitors, and I don't think I have a Dalish male mage to test with.

  • I'm playing on a PS4.

I just went back and switched his Skyhold outfit to the default to see if that may have been causing the issue, but unfortunately, it's the same. Even checked the schematic in the Undercroft, and it's a no-go.

And as far as I'm aware, they should be the same regardless of gender! I have DA:I for my Xbox360, and my (male) Dalish mage has the scarf+shirt combo on his Battlemage armour.

I might just have to suck it up, haha.

I suspected the Skyhold outfit from the wardrobe wouldn't make a difference, but it was worth checking.
It is an odd bug. And you're on a console, so as far as I'm aware you can't just do a repair and hope that fixes it... I think you might be right, you'll just have to suck it up, unless someone who knows something about consoles comes along with a helpful idea. 😛

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
