Re: EA Launcher doesn´t install in choosen directory

INFO - Post Marked as Solution for Visibility

Hi everyone,

We’ve seen some discussions about finding ways to install the EA app in non-standard directories or methods. While we appreciate your creativity, please note that this can lead to issues we may not be able to identify or fix later. The app is designed to work best when installed as intended.

At the moment, the only thing you can change during the installation process is the default install location for games, which you can adjust by selecting the Advanced installation process. However, the install directory for the EA app itself cannot be changed at this time.

For the best experience, we recommend following the standard installation process. If you’re having issues, please refer to our support resources for troubleshooting.

Thank you.

  • @EA_Leeuw How does this get such a ludicrous amount of uploads, in this lengthy topic which is just about complaining about this... Maybe tons of totally clueless people suiddenly spawned here.

Anyway, there will be "issues" anyway with EA, that is guaranteed. If one can have a moment of satisfaction - and even expanded compatibility in some cases - with a work-around (since EA is too arrogant and lazy to offer such a trivial function themselves), then that is perfectly fine.

@MemoriesofIce "upvotes", not uploads, but look at that, one can't even do a trivial edit without filling in a form with a million fields. What a mess.

"While we appreciate your creativity..." We aren't trying to be creative; we are trying to solve issues. The real issues are these:

    1. The very second you put the EA App on your C: drive, you can kiss (in my case) a 15 to 18 second boot time goodbye. The more packs you add the slower a computer becomes.
    2. Many of us use our computers for things other than gaming. In my case, filmmaking. If a deadline is looming, I can't be distracted by games so I literally unplug games because they are on an external drive. I don't have to spend time uninstalling things when I return to "work mode"
    3. CC users/creators can take up an obscene amount of space on their hard drives and they need more space so all of their wonderful CC goodies can be in their game. Without all this CC being showcased, EA would have no one to collaborate with, build houses for packs or other work that they do with content creators.
    4.  With very rare exceptions, like EA stuff, almost every app or game lets a user choose an install directory because of the above scenarios.

We play your game because we are creative, but we are not trying to be creative when we use other methods and workarounds. If we don't try to solve these issues, nobody could play the game the way they want to on systems they paid for. No company be it an app company or a game company should dictate how the user allocates resources on a system the spent hard-earned money on.
