Agree with the whole promo system being extreamly strange in its execution.
It feels like the start of an idea that wasn't developed at all and just implemented bare bones.

The issue with having extra time and pens in this current format is because of the way matchmaking is implemented.

You're playing teams from your division, the division above, and one below. They are not necessarily playing games in the same phase you are in.
They might be in the early stages where points are required and a draw will earn them a point - whereas you are in promotion matches and can only win or lose.

Because of that, games have to finish at 90m.

Totally agree that it's annoying though. I really wish they'd spent more time developing the new format before implementing it. It feels so bare bones and once you hit elite you basically have nothing to play for until playoffs. We've been in limbo for a week just playing essentially "friendlies" until they start, which we will then play in a night or two, only to then have another 10+ days of "friendlies" waiting for the the playoff window to close.

It's all extreamly anticlimactic.
