Re: How do I install the disk version of Lazy Duchess's Smooth Patch? | Sims 3

@Splotchish  Your thread is already in the right place, so you are too.

The instructions for installing the Smooth Patch for a disc install are actually the same as for a Steam install, not Origin, aside from the location of the game's program files.  Since disc and Steam installs both use TS3W.exe, with the W, not TS3.exe, make sure you are NOT using the download provided for Origin installs.  I'm not sure the Origin version would even work, although I haven't really looked at it.

Anyway, the other half of the process is putting the files in the correct place.  In your case, the default file path in a disc install is this:

Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin

You can access that location by opening a File Explorer window and clicking This PC in the left panel, then double-clicking the C drive and opening the folders in sequence.

Other than that, the instructions are the same, as in, download and unzip the folder, and dump the files inside into the Bin folder listed above.  If you're having trouble with a particular step, please let me know which one and what's confusing about it so I can explain better.

I don't have a ''Game'' file in The Sims 3, unless it is ''CurrentGame.sims3'', in which case I don't have a bin folder. What do I do from here?

@Splotchish  You're looking in the wrong folder.  The one in your screenshot is the user folder, the one that contains saves, saved households and builds, mods and custom content, etc.  The game's program files are elsewhere.  And again, by default, they're here:

    Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

Unless you manually changed the location when installing via disc, that's where the program files are.  I promise you that you have a Program Files (x86) folder on your computer; it's a feature of every 64-bit version of Windows.

I apologize for asking constant questions, and I really appreciate your help.

But I looked inside the ' Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts folder, but I can't find The Sims 3, only the expansion and stuff packs I have installed.

Again, I'm very sorry for the excessive questions, and appreciate you taking time out of your day to answer me.

@Splotchish  That's strange.  Did you install the base game in Origin?  If so, you'd need to look in Program Files (x86)\Origin Games.

If that doesn't help, open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, and enter TS3W in the search field in the upper-right corner.  The base game's Bin folder will have a copy of TS3W.exe, I mean it needs to for the game to work, and when you find it, click on it and select Open file location.  That's the Bin folder where the Smooth Patch files need to go.

By the way, if you do launch the game through Origin, you need to follow the instructions for Origin installs.  The fact that you used discs to install your packs doesn't matter; it's about how the game launches.

Oh! In that case, I'm all set. I did install it through the disk, but launch it from Origin. Thank you so much for helping me!
