How to install and register my SIMS 3

Hi all, I bought my SIMS 3 many years ago in DVD format.

Now I want to install it and play it again, but alas after installation, the game starts but then stops and disappear without any error message,

No updates are available. I tried to install the EA app and enter the  Serial number printed on the inside documentation but it says that the number is invalid. Therefore, I cannot register the game and I cannot play it or upgrade it. I am using a Windows 10 64 bits PC.

Please, is it possible to play it?

Thanks, ciao.

  • ghido2000bis  Please run the Super Patch to manually patch your disc install to 1.67, the latest update available.  You can download it here:

    http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims/sims3/patches/TS3_1.67.2.0240xx_update.exe

Your browser might flag it because the URL starts with http rather than https, but you can see from the address that it points directly to EA servers.  If you can't allow the download, use a different browser.

If you still can't play after running the Super Patch, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • Dear puzzlezaddict , thank you so much for the help.

I did download the updater. This sounds like a great workaround. Unfortunately, when I run it, I get an immediate error as attached. The updater then exits after clicking OK. Any idea?

I tried to run the updater without DVD inserted, with DVD inserted, and with the game running. Nothing changes, always the error below.

  • ghido2000bis  The patch shouldn't be run with the game open, and it shouldn't need the disc inserted either.  Do you see any updates available in the launcher itself, or can you at least tell it to look for updates?  I wouldn't trust the launcher to say the game is updated, but perhaps running one would get it updated enough for the Super Patch to work.

  • puzzlezaddict I also run the patch without disk and without the game running, I got the same error.

The launcher has a button to download updates. I click on it and it tells me that the game is up to date. The version reported is 1.0.631.00002.

    Thank you.

  • ghido2000bis  Then I would suggest doing a clean uninstall of Sims 3, as described here:

[Read First] Running Sims 3 in Windows | EA Forums - 8323446

You don't need to remove the EA App, although it's worth doing if you don't have another use for it.

When you reinstall Sims 3, install only the base game at first, then try running the Super Patch.  If it doesn't work, ask the launcher to check for updates, and then try the Super Patch again.  If you can get it to run, you can then install any expansion or stuff packs you own, and run the Super Patch yet again.

Even if you only own the base game, I would still suggest a clean uninstall and reinstall because something may be broken with the current installation.  On that note, if you use any kind of cleaner app, please disable it before you reinstall the game, and leave it disabled until you've finished this process.

I would suggest the same for a third-party antivirus, but Windows Defender should be fine.  If you do disable your AV, your computer should be safe as long as you don't do anything else at the same time, and you can reenable it after you've finished installing and tested the game once.

  • Dear puzzlezaddict , it worked without reinstalling. I was running the patch on my daugther account which is not an administrator. I run it as an admin and it worked perefectly. All works fine now. We thank you very much, ciao.
