- @Mark_Miwurdz Perfect on top. It’s literally impossible without cheating to get perfect/perfect. I think I’ve done it 3x out of 3 play-throughs.
I'm not certain it's just chipping. Regardless of the skill level you play on, shouldn't a perfect at the top and perfect at the bottom result in an accurate shot? If I have a perfect/perfect my approach shot can be off the green on the fly on either the right or left even though I have it aimed at the center of the green. How does that work?
The (SIM) chipping is as designed... I don't expect to every chip in real life to go in, so I wouldn't expect to do it in this game. I think we also have to take into consideration the RNG built into the game. So even with perfect execution there is no guarantee the ball is going exactly where you aimed it.
This appears to be the cornerstone of how difficulty is applied in the game. You need a little luck on top of any skill you possess with any club other than a putter.
I agree with the perfect/perfect execution and there being no guarantees because of things that you don't control like the wind, elevation, etc., but for a shot to be perfect/perfect with no wind and be off by 10-20 yards, in the air, is a little hard to swallow.
I just noticed something though, I'm pretty new at this game, but with a career player I was wondering how you upgrade the clubs in your bag beside shelling out money to buy the needed points? And at what level do they have to get to before their skill improves beyond being an amateur's skill?
@simeurocat As far as clubs go, the replacements you get in the store are cosmetic, and make no difference.
There are specialisations in the store though, and those can only be bought with the victory points you earn in game by playing in tournaments, completing challenges, quests and the course mastery type stuff.
Those specialisations are what make the clubs more akin to those used by the professional golfers.
- @simeurocat I personally have given up on understanding what constitutes a perfect shot in this game. I just hit the ball to the safest area possible if hazards are in play, and carry on from where the game pits my ball.
You will however find things will get better as you apply skill points and specs to your character. But you will still get the odd shot that has you shaking your head. I just accept it as part of the game that is not in my control.
However... once you level up your character... your short game will improve drastically. You should be able to get up and down from pretty much anywhere inside 70 yards.
The game becomes far too easy at that point. @simeurocatAnd I forgot... as @Noya-Wesa stated equipment is purely cosmetic.
You can only improve your character through specs (purchased through the store with VC), and skill points earned through XP.

This is not my experience with chipping. If you are using correct distance and angle, and accounting for rollout, I've never been more than 2-3 feet away on a chip. If your 10-20 yards off, you probably shouldnt have been chipping that shot....
As a rule of thumb, use about 50% rollout on a flat chip. Then adjust up and down for elevation like you would for a putt.

I think he is referring to hitting a driver off the tee box. He probably just got a little off topic.
I see this often... when I do get a PERFECT/PERFECT with what seems to be a perfect swing path only to see it go somewhere unexpected... well outside the dispersion zone, and sometimes against the wind.
But I totally agree with you. I only chip inside about 15 yards... and I'm usually well inside 3 feet. Outside 15 yards it's a flop shot.
Sorry for being off topic! I just wanted the OP to know that I didn't feel it was just on chipping that his problem was being observed. Thanks for the advice on the chipping,pitching and flop shot distances.

I don't have issues with chipping. The only time I had a chip miss by 10 feet is at Cardi Creek (aka Wolf Creek) with 20+ mph winds. For all other courses, it is about a 3 ft miss. I also would not attempt a chip if the distance is over 8 yards from the hole. The 8 yards come from what the distance says when I attempt the shot; from the angle the shot looks lesser than 8 yards. Just in case the only shot I have for over 8 yards is the chip, I will account for distance and angle to insure I am within 3 feet of the hole for a par instead. When I attempt the chip, I do not put the cursor next to the hole. I put it a little short to ensure I do not miss by a lot when I actually miss.

If I have an 8 yard or under chip outside the green, I have improved to an 85% make. I also use chip shots on difficult greens with many putt breaks like Torrey Pines; I can hit 60% to 70% of those shots. This was done on Career Mode. I needed to use quick play to practice.
