I deleted F1 23.
Guys... I don't know what to say.
I just recently played F1 23 again, and it was so messed up that I just decided to delete the game from my drive.
Believe me, in all my playtime of F1 games, and I played plenty of them, I have never thought that there would be an F1 game that's actually worse than F1 2021. But I think we indeed have arrived at that point.
F1 23 is the biggest mess of a racing game I have ever seen. I once said that the game is at an all-time low because there's no new content in the Podium Pass, but the game itself has changed for the worse since release.
Really, when the game was brand new, I absolutely loved it, and I was so happy to finally have a viable successor to F1 2020, and despite all the bugs that were there at release, I had a lot of fun playing Career Mode, F1 World and Braking Point 2. It was simply amazing.
Things changed for the worse though when the first big updates rolled in, especially the ones where the car performance is changed.
Do you want to know why I love Frontier's F1 Manager games? Because they stay true to the real season and make the driver roster and car performance based on the first race of the year, and that's absolutely fine, and it's nice, because then, players can enjoy a realistic experience from a real life starting point. And they don't rush out updates that change the car performance and disrupt the experience, no. Everything is always the same when you start a new career save.
The problem with the racing games is EA SPORTS philosophy of adjusting EVERYTHING to the real life season, cars, drivers, everything.
Now look, I am well aware that there are players that don't play Career Mode that much, but the Career Mode is the heart of every single F1 game, and that's where the focus needs to be. And F1 23 has tons and TONS of examples where updates made Career Mode unrealistic.
First up, Nyck de Vries. The man drove the first race in Bahrain, and he drove more races in the season than Daniel Ricciardo or Liam Lawson. So why, instead of just adding both drivers to the free agents so other teams can hire them in Career Mode, does he get relentlessly deleted without warning? This completely breaks the realism and makes his section in the compendium completely unnecessary. And let's just say, there are some players like me who want to have him in their team in My Team.
Second, the handling. When the game was new, the handling was perfect. Almost like F1 2020, but much better. And, with the Precision Drive technology for controller players, which should be implemented into F1 2020 as well if you ask me, made it even better. However, I heard that apparently, one of the patches has changed the handling, and I assume it's the Sport Update that changed liveries and performance. And since said update, the previous setups have been made obsolete, as you can no longer keep up with the AI with the setup you used to beat them with.
And finally, AI driver performance. I once said that in F1 2021, Max Verstappen was too overpowered. And since all these updates in F1 23, we have gone back in time, returning to the Verstappen dominance from F1 2021, and there was no way to beat him unless you had a better car or he had a mechanical failure. But otherwise, he's nigh unbeatable, which is kinda realistic since he won all but three races, but for the sake of an enjoyable game, it's just plain boring and predictable. And also, you want to become champion too, don't you?
So yes, due to these three major things and the fact that the game has been dead since the third Podium Pass, I decided to delete the game and never play it again.
I'm going to give it one more try with F1 24, and this is EA SPORTS last chance to develop a good F1 game, but if this is a failure too, then I will turn my back on F1 games and never purchase a new one unless the F1 license goes to a different developer.
I hope you can understand that. Good day.
