Re: my saved sims are weird

@davideb22  To help you, we need a little more information.  So please answer the questions below and I'll see if I can help you fix the issue.

Since you were using cc eyes, are you also using any cc skin tones and how old are they?  A lot of skin tones made before Island Living came out do some strange things since they don't have the tan and burn layers that newer skin tones do.  If you do have any skin tones, are they default replacements or additions?  If you have more than one default replacement for the same Maxis skin tone, that can create problems too.

And how were the cc eyes messing up your game?  And were they default replacements or additions?

The reason I ask is because it may not have been the eyes causing whatever problem you had that caused to you remove them.  And by removing them, you may have caused the real issue to show itself.

Another thing it could be is you may have a nude shirt hiding in your cc clothes.  Also, does it affect the females as well as the males?

  • @CGrant56 1. yes i was using cc skin tones, and they were additions not default replacements. 2. the eyes were default replacement, and i just removed them from the game, i think they were downloaded when i downloaded a cc pack. 3. I'm not sure if it affects the females because there there's no shirtless option for females. they closest thing to shirtless is a swim suit

@davideb22Ok.  Thanks for the extra info.

So, There are some things you can try to see if the problem will clear up.  Based on what you have said so far, I think this may be a cc issue and probably a custom skin tone.  But that is a guess, nothing more.

First, try deleting the localthumbcache file.  Deleting it often clears up a lot of problems when you have removed cc from the game.  Don't worry about deleting it as the game will create a new one the next time it starts.  The only thing you might notice is that it will take a few seconds to create new thumbnails in CAS and the Build catalog.

Then, if you see no change, take one of the sims affected into CAS and try changing the eyes to another one and then change it back to see if that fixes that sim.  Then do the same with the skin tone if that doesn't.  I suggest you use items that came with the game, not cc for this.  You can also try adding a shirt and removing it.  If any of these work, then you'll know what you have to do to fix the rest.

If trying that doesn't work, then there are several ways to go about finding the cause.  But you should make a copy of your Sims 4 folder and put it somewhere safe first so you don't lose your game progress until you find what is causing this.  At least make a copy of your tray and saves folders if nothing else.

Then I would try removing all your cc skin tones. And then check a sim or two to see if that clears it up.  If it does, then you can add them back one by one until the issue shows back up.  Doing it that way will tell you which one is causing the problem.  Depending on how many you have, that will mean a lot of starting and exiting the game and will take time.  Once you have found the one causing the problem and removed it, then restore your save file.  It will mean editing every sim that used that skin tone in case because the game will assign a random skin tone to those sims when it can't find the file your removed.

You could also move your Sims 4 folder to your desktop and start a new game to create a test game.  Then put all your cc and mods into the new game and then restart the game and make a sim or two to see if the problem shows.  If it does, then you could use the 50/50 method to find the cc item that is causing the problem without risking your main save.  Once you have isolated and removed the cc item causing the problem, then you can delete or move that file in your original sims 4 folder, delete or move the test game Sims 4 folder and put the Sims 4 folder on your desktop back in place, delete or move the offending file and play your game.

If none of that works, then come back and we'll go from there.

@davideb22   Wow, I really did think one of those things would work.  So...……...a few more questions.

Just to be sure I got the problem right, what you are seeing is just affecting male sims only and only when you have them shirtless.  Correct?  When you put a shirt on one of the sims affected by this, the issue goes away, right?  And does it happen for all clothing categories or just one or two?

Looking at the picture you posted, I can't tell if the pants are getting the skin tone color or vice versa. So what color are the pants supposed to be? And since I don't recognize them, are they cc? Did you try changing the pants?  And does it happen with the game pants, swim suits and underwear?

Did you try a vanilla test game with no cc or mods?   If you did, did you create a sim and have the same issue show up?  If you did, then I suggest you repair the game through Origin.

And in the test game with cc, when you created a new sim, did the issue show up?  Did you see any difference at all?

Are you using any custom tattoos?  Or any other cc body details?  Bad custom tattoos usually turn the whole sim pitch black, including the clothes, but if the tattoo is nearly the same color as a skin tone then that is a possibility.  Body details can also have weird effects.  Those are mostly a body overlay and sometimes can show up over the clothes rather than under them if they were not created correctly.

Do you see anything off in CAS when you look at your clothes?  I have seen some cc underwear that cause the entire bottom half of a sim to just disappear when you put it on them for instance.  And other things that caused the color of the item to bleed over onto other parts of the sim.

Generally, removing a piece of cc should only affect whatever part of a sim that the cc applied to and you usually have to go in and fix that part of the sim when you remove a cc item. In your case, that would be the eyes. Do you have any other cc eyes, either addition or default replacement?

I still think this is probably cc related and you have some piece of cc that is causing it.  I have had some weird things happen in my game because of cc that got outdated or was broken from the start.  So going through every piece of CAS cc that you have may be what it takes to fix this.

Hope this helps.  Let us know if any of things I've suggested works.  This one is a real puzzler.

  • @CGrant56 yes, but when i put a shirt on the sim it still just turns to the color of their skin tone. and yes it does happen for all clothing categories if there is no shirt on. it will be fine for all of the other categories but will act up in whatever category there is no shirt. the issue goes away when there's no cc. but i don't have much cc so i will just go through and remove cc and put it back to see what the problem is. thank you for your help though 🙂) if i figure out what it is, i will come back
