I have always been rather disturbed by this involuntary pregnancy after an alien abduction thing, and it's the main reason I haven't bought the Get To Work EP. Is there any way to shut that feature off?

@RandomBuzziness, I never thought of the Alien pregnancies as involuntary since we never see what goes on board the space ship. I always assumed that those males that come back pregnant agreed to the experiment either out of curiosity, or for the betterment of science. ๐ค Seems like it is a surgery anyway since the baby that is born is always an Alien. Babies born in game with one Alien parent and one Human parent are hybrids and won't be like the babies that you get by abductions.
You can't turn it off in game controls, but you can prevent abductions from happening in the first place.๐ In the Scientist career there is a satellite dish that you can make while at work, or for your non-scientists you can use cheats to have the satellite be available to you. Once the satellite is in place on any lot, you can use the "Prevent Abductions" interaction! ๐ - RandomBuzziness6 years agoSeasoned Ace@PugLove888 Thanks, it is good to know that at least the abductions can be prevented for anyone not wishing to become a science experiment. Even if the process is surgical it still results in a pregnancy, so I think some form of "yes, I consent to this experiment" or "no thanks" option would have been better.
Just to clarify, does the satellite dish only prevent abductions on the lot where it is placed or is it some kind of over-all blanket prevention that extends to all lots in all worlds? - troshalom6 years agoSeasoned Ace
@RandomBuzzinessyou can send the baby back. I actually don't mind that. was just shocked cause dude isn't an astronaut or scientist and has never looked through a telescope.
BTW the dish only works on the lot installed and abductions only happen with active sims.
I moved in an elder alien sim next door and gave her the baby as I might play her after my elder sim dies, if I let him die.
Also turns out my sim loves aliens, which I didn't know before the abduction.
This game is funny
- troshalom6 years agoSeasoned Ace@jpkarlsen Yeah, that's what makes it so ironic. He loves his daughter tho

@troshalom and @PugLove888 Thanks again for all the info and the clarification on the Satellite dish. ๐ I will keep all this in mind when deciding if/when I will add the GW pack.
I can always check to see if there is a mod to tune out the parts I don't like.

@RandomBuzziness, yes, I can see where you would like an option to consent to an alien expierimnetation (even if it didn't result in pregnancy), but this aspect of the game was meant to be fanciful, humourous and crazy. It started back with TS2 in 2004 in the base game. TS2 was heavily driven by storytelling and the crazy things that can happen in a Sims's life. (TS1 had alien abduction, but there was never any normal pregnancy let alone Alien pregnancy in that game!) It continued with TS3 and TS4. Until the about 3 years ago, I rarely, if ever, heard of anyone complain about it, even after about 12 years of alien abductions and pregnancies happening all that time. ๐คจ
Yes, if you get Get to Work and don't like some aspects of it, then by all means look for a Mod that will suit your needs! ๐ Just be sure to maintain your Mods, as they will often become outdated when EA releases an update to the game, and outdated Mods can cause a lot of problems with your game. The good news is that most Mod makers will update their Mods to work with new changes that EA makes when it patches the game. You will just have to stay on top of it. ๐
@troshalom, thank you for providing the information that preventing abductions only works on the current lot.๐ I rarely play rotationally, as I prefer the level of control I get with individual Save Games for each household. So, I wasn't sure if the prevent abductions interaction only worked for the current lot, or if it worked for the whole neighborhood. ๐ณ

Heavy sigh, his alien daughter Mysteria is a toddler living with the next door neighbor. And right after his Harvestfest party he is abducted again! Juan can't get a break. This game is just hilarious.
Yeah, and he has another toddler with Brityani Cho, who just kept walking past his house and flirting with him. So, this abduction will make baby number 3 if he is preggo.
Update +++
Three Sim days later and he still isn't preggo, so I guess not all abductions result in pregnacies.

@troshalom, no Sims males only get pregnant by abductions some of the time. ๐
@jpkarlsen @ I don't think she's complaining. She's just pointing out the irony and his sad misfortune
- troshalom6 years agoSeasoned Ace
And Abduction #3 - Juan just had a play date with his two toddlers: Mysteria Gustafson and Calvin Cho. He invited some friends over to eat some spinach frittata, and lo and behold abduction #3
This time I was able to pause and snag pics of the abduction. Now let's see if he ends up preggo.
@troshalom Dang! They really like him ๐. Looks like you're going to have to get the satellite to turn off abductions. Though they don't always get pregnant at the rate he's getting snatched his odds are definitely going up. ๐จ

@troshalom, thanks for including the pictures! I always enjoy seeing other people's Sims pics! โค๏ธ
You will need to get the satellite dish I talked about on page 1 of this thread, if you want to prevent abductions! Either make one at work in the Scientist career, or use the cheat. Open the Cheat Box and in it type bb.showhiddenobjects and press "Enter" . The satellite can be found in the Sort by Function tab , under Electronics and in Miscellaneous. It is 500 Simoleans. ๐
