Re: Yard sales total takings

@jacquimoo2 Hello!  I don't have Cottage Living but, as far as I know, there is no in-game tally of sales from those market tables.  What I normally do is make a note of how much money is in the household funds before I start selling, then note the total afterward and calculate the difference.  I do this with my musicians playing and getting tips as well.  Hope this helps!

  • Hi, thanks for your reply, ok, thanks, yes that is what I have been doing so far. It’s a shame there’s not a way of getting the total takings for the yard sale, like in a get to work retail store it gives you the daily takings. Never mind, will carry on with the way you suggested 🙂 thanks

@jacquimoo2 I think the difference is that the store has funds that are separate from the household funds.  Those market tables don't have a separate bank of funds.  If you have GTW, maybe you could create a store for your items?  I know a few folks who have retail shops with living space for their sims.  Maybe you could move your household into some small cheap lot and set your farm as a retail lot.  The main issue is that if any sim has a job or is in school, they will spawn at the home lot when they return.  Otherwise, your sims can live on the retail lot and you just open the store whenever you're ready to sell your stuff.  You wouldn't even need to build a structure for it, although if you have Seasons you might want to at least build a gazebo or something.  Then all you need is a counter with a register and maybe a table or two to put the stuff on?  I know it's not what you're asking for and not ideal for sure but just a thought.

Edit: I thought of one other potential issue with my suggestion.  Your sims will have to travel to the "home" lot to get mail but unless your sims are getting a lot of mail, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.  Also, thinking about the pros and * of trying this, I wonder if it would help to think of the "home" lot as a vacation home.  Maybe set them up in a beach home if you have Island Living.  So they actually live on the farm (retail lot) AND have a nice place for vacations!  I might actually try this in one of my games. :-)

  • Hi, thanks for your suggestions. I tried combining a home and a shop on the same retail lot but did run into some of the issues you mention, like it saying my sims were not at home etc. I also tried just having a shop on a separate retail lot, but then of course you can’t switch between sims when one is at home working on the farm and one is at the shop. My work around at the moment is to have a selling table on my home/farm lot in the front corner, and I have built a structure around it with a roof, and just left a front section of wall out, so it is almost like a shop 🙂 I have then put a fence to separate from the home with a gate that is locked for everyone but household members, so people do not walk around my garden (although I did find that they were just using the front gate instead, so I’ve done the same with that one, which is not ideal, but can always unlock it when I am expecting visitors 🙂) Open world would of course be the perfect solution or even just each little neighbourhood being open world, because you could then have a shop next door and come and go, but as it is, this set up seems to be working quite well 🙂
