NBA2K makes Madden 25 look shameful

First I know the VC system in 2k is awful however, this game provides such an incredible NBA experience on and off the court. This game shows what true game development should look like.

Career Modes:

Superstar mode in M25 has failed again to take a leap in a positive way. NBA2K has MyCity which gives players opportunities to have an authentic player experience off the court. This game has stores to fully customize tattoos, clothes, accessories, bikes, skateboards etc. They have the Gatorade training facilities for players to do workouts and gain rewards, they have your personal mycourt, they have interactable quests with people, endorsements, and so on. They have a go kart track, the insane amount of detail that makes the city feel new and exciting every year while listening to consumer feedback. They have pregame/post game locker room interactions, interviews, coach meetings that are 1000000x better than the ones offered in Madden.

Franchise Modes:

Madden continuously neglects franchise mode each and every year adding the bare minimum to make it look like they care. 2K has voiceovers for players. The draft class customization in 2K is unmatched. They offer fully customizable faces, tattoos, and the same exact player builder as mycareer. 2k offers different eras to start a franchise with. 2K has conference championship presentations, ring/banner celebration presentations, When creating new teams 2K offers full stadium customization while Madden still uses the SAME generic stadiums with 0 customization options for the past like 10 years. Even small details like fans leaving games during blow outs.

Character Customization/Creation:

Madden has used the same generic faces for created players that look nothing close to next-gen. They have been recycled for 10 years now. Madden is missing TONS of equipment options that I have made posts about for years. NBA2K has a face builder, tattoos that can be layered, moved around and manipulated. They have home/away equipment options, amazing shoe colorways, and from what I have seen 0 missing equipment options.

Other notes:

NBA2k has jersey swaps, sidelines that look REALISTIC with REALISTIC players on benches, coaches, camera crews, sidelines crews and so on. Madden again has these AWFUL player models on the sidelines representing players, no real offensive or defensive coordinators, the sideline crews look atrocious and are years away from next-gen. The fans in 2k look real, have life, look different, leave games during blowouts, and all things EA still fails to do for Madden

Madden neglects offline users more and more each year while NBA2k continues to strive for good player experience for offline users.

  • Madden would benefit greatly from improving the halftime show a la NBA2K. I have posted this elsewhere - the halftime show is a signature piece of the NFL presentation experience. This is something that would greatly improve the experience for many and can be skippable for those who aren’t as interested in the television broadcast style appearance.

I also notice that NBA2K25 has added a highlight package builder where you can choose from many highlights to build a package for the whole game. This is a smart feature for people who like to watch highlights when they finish a game, and for content creators.

The commentators in Madden also need to have a better sign off script for the end of games. Often I find they just go silent. Anyone else find this to be the case?

NBA today also provides real time stats from the current NBA season. I am not sure that I see madden 25 doing this for each week’s games. Would also be a great addition.

I will say that NBA2K pregame locker room and off the bus presentation feels a bit lacking. Seems like they cut corners there which makes me think why not spend the time and effort on some other aspect of the game.
