I don't think the age of the first two games is the issue. Mass Effect 1 was released on PS3 in 2012 which was about five years after the Xbox 360 version. I think it's sales that are the problem. EA doesn't seem to have any games planned for the Wii U at the moment and it sounds like they're concerned that ME1 & ME2 "won't sell". I do think it's an unfair way to treat fans and just leave them hanging like that despite any reasons that might be behind it. Without ME1 & ME2 fans on Wii U are effectively missing two thirds of the story. The Genesis comic can't cover everything in 20 minutes and misses a lot of things out. Not to mention most of Mass Effect 3's DLC is also missing on Wii U.

Microsoft published the first Mass Effect on Xbox 360. It's possible that the publishing deal made it impossible for BioWare/EA to release a PS3 version during that five year time span. Since ME2 was published solely by EA, no such deal was in place, which is why ME2 on PS3 could be released sooner than ME1.
Rumor has it EA wanted Origin to be the sole online platform on Wii U, which Nintendo then refused. This resulted in EA not upholding their previously made promise of future Wii U support.
But it's more likely just an economic decision, since Nintendo hasn't been so successful with third party franchises. I think resources spent on making a Wii U port, are wasted, due to the platform's lack of popularity. While I don't own a current generation console, I think the Wii U is probably the best console currently out, but that's mainly because of the first party exclusives. I see no reason why I would play EA games, for instance, on any platform less capable than a gaming PC.
Mass Effect is multiplatform now so I agree it's probably one of the other two scenarios holding up Wii U versions of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. If someone has a capable PC and they use it for games then that would generally be the best way for them to experience Mass Effect. Wii U users who liked Mass Effect 3 and want to play the rest of the series though are out of luck it seems. It would be ideal for that reason for the series to be as widely available as possible. It seems unfortunately the Wii U doesn't fit into that yet.
To be fair, I don't think EA gave Wii U a chance by making ME3 a €65 game while the superior PC version was €10.
