Re: Pre-rendered cutscenes play in slow motion (4-12 fps, PC)

@puzzlezaddict Thanks man, that'd be great! I've already tested 60hz and 100hz and neither resolves the issue. I will try setting the DPI too 100% and get back to you when I have the chance.

    @kizmiazz7  I only had a little time to test tonight, but didn't see any issues with lag in cutscenes.  On the other hand, I only played up to where Shepard first lands on Eden Prime, and I won't have time to get much farther in-game.  So if you have a save from just before one of the cutscenes you know lagged, I'd love to borrow a copy and test that, just for comparsion.

    You could also try running the game only on the Pro 560, no eGPU, at least long enough to get through a cutscene.  While it wouldn't be ideal, it's certainly a workaround if you find yourself repeatedly dying because a cutscene is running at half speed.  By the way, playing at 1920x1200, my fps was mostly 44-48 on Eden Prime, a consistent 60 on the Normandy (I did have v-sync on by default at that point), and locked at 30 in cutscenes, which is eminently playable if not the lovely >100 fps you're getting otherwise.

    On the other hand, if the cutscenes still lag for you, that means we need to look elsewhere, so it's also useful information.

    @puzzlezaddict Hey man thanks for taking the time to test it out. Unfortunately testing it on my 560 is kind of a hassle as I've had to uninstall the drivers for that to avoid a driver conflict with my egpu. I imagine I'd be getting around 30fps or less at 3440 x 1440 which is definitely gonna be less than satisfactory for me. I do appreciate the suggestion though.

    I wasn't sure about this so I didn't mention it but I only noticed the cutscenes lagging during the second half of my playthrough of ME1 which could mean that it was caused/got worse after the patch on May 17th, as @RPGaff mentioned. In fact now that I think about it, this is very likely the case.

    @kizmiazz7  Sorry for the late reply; I kind of lost track of this thread.  I'm curious whether the same thing would happen on my system, but I haven't progressed that far into the game, and I won't get to it for a while at least.  Do you have a save I could borrow to test?  It doesn't need to be from immediately before an affected cutscene, just close enough that it wouldn't take me two hours to get there.

    If not, I'll try to find someone else with a save I can borrow, although the one person I've asked so far hasn't had that much time to play either.

    Hi @puzzlezaddict, if @kizmiazz7 has the same issue as me (which seems to be the case, see here), the issue affects all loading screens, so you should see it immediately if you're using an eGPU.

  • @RPGaff  From their last post, it sounded like it was possible only the later cutscenes lagged, although maybe the issue is always present and simply a bit more subtle earlier in the game.  I'd still like to test though: it's worth knowing that this problem shows up on a Bootcamped Mac if and only if it's using an eGPU.  The graphics drivers for macOS are completely different than what everyone else has, so while the game might behave exactly the same way, I'm not going to assume.

    Thanks for flagging the other thread though.  I haven't been able to keep up with this forum (really at all), so I'd only seen one other report and wasn't sure whether it was a coincidence.

    @puzzlezaddict some non-Mac users with eGPU have piped up as well, plus most Mac users don't use the bootcamp drivers but vanilla (Radeon in my case).
    I managed to isolate the issue to Bink movies playback through bink2w54.dll, however there isn't an issue with the DLL nor with the movie files, since they play fine with RADGameTools on the same machine. It appears that the DLL gets called differently from the main exe since the May 17th update.

    @puzzlezaddict

    I can confirm that this definitely isn't just a Mac/Bootcamp issue, but there does seem to be an eGPU common connection.  I'm running Windows 10 on a PC (Intel Tiger Lake i7/16 GB RAM) with external eGPU and a Vega 64 and I get exactly the same slow motion cutscenes/stuttering during pre-rendered scenes (and loading screens).

    What is more annoying is that not only does the cutscene run at a terrible framerate, but often there is an in-game engine scene which follows it (particularly common towards the end of ME1) which seems to start before the cutscene is finished, so you hear the overlapping audio of both scenes and miss the beginning of the in-engine scene.
