If you're referring to N7: Wrecked Merchant Freighter in ME2 then you need to deactivate the distress beacon at the far end of the crash site before you're allowed to leave.

I figured something was something extra down there but never found it. Will try again.
In-game it's called "Signal Transmitter," and emits a sound when you're nearby to help you find it. If you're still unable to locate it, see this video walkthrough
- @jdbassjr If you've deactivated the beacon, you'll know. A sandstorm will hit, reducing your visibility and you will be nailed by waves and waves of LOKI mechs, and a few YMIR mechs as well. Can't remember if there are any FENRIS mechs as well. You will then be able to get to the shuttle and escape, or you can end the mission by just killing all of the mechs.
