Forced to install EA app, now I can't get anymore achievements so I can't finish my playthrough. Please fix this. Whoever thought starting games on steam requires to launch the game through Origin/EA app or Ubisoft Connect just make the experience of gaming unecessaryily frustrating.
I can't start the game through Origin anymore, because i big fat "install EA APP" overlay blocks the complete origin GUI, and i would happily update right now, IF THE %&$#%$ ACHIEVEMENTS WOULDN'T BE BROKEN IN THE EA APP!!!
This must be fixed ASAP, EA is already known for it's anti-consumer practices and this is a testament to their reputation.
I finished the first game on origin and got all the Achievements.
I swithched to EA for the 2nd game and got none.
Went back to Origins and nearly beaten the 3rd unlocking them and now being forced back to EA.
Fix it please.
Same story.. and they forcing us into crap EA play prior fixing it
I was nearly finished with the 3rd game too.
This is a pain. I hope they fix this mess.
Here's what I can gather about this situation so far.
- People, including myself, were able to get achievements just fine through ME1. ME2 is when they started to break.
- The only solution to the above problem was to download Origin (aka the launcher EA claims to be outdated and inferior to the new launcher) and play the game through that program.
- That worked just fine for people, including myself, until today, when the Origin app became unusable thanks to a giant pop-up with no close button that says, "Hey! Origin is getting an update! By the way, you don't have a choice in whether or not you take the update. You just have to have it."
- Game is broken again and hours of save progress are being rendered essentially useless because of it.
For people like me, achievement hunting is a big part of why we play video games. All I'm reading from the lack of action on EA's part is "Well, we have your money already, and the game technically still works, so..."
Feels like someone moving all the furniture in my house over an inch so that I keep bumping into things but I can't figure out why. It's a nuisance.
I can't even begin to express how stupid it is that we have no choice in using this launcher especially when it doesn't work — and hasn't worked — for weeks.
Exactly this. I uninstalled the EA app or declined the install and used Origin but this morning that pop up FORCES you to install EA app. I really don't care about EA app, I'd install it and just use it instead of Origin, but not getting the achievements completely puts the trilogy off the table for now.
The issue is specifically the "Gamer profile" file inside your ME2 save folder. Deleting that does lock all the achievements. THE PROBLEM is that the app keeps downloading a "Gamer Profile" file from the cloud servers that has all the achievements unlocked in game, thus you don't unlock them in the app or on Steam if you have the game on it. I discovered that if you delete the "Gamer Profile" file and play the game completely offline, the achievements still pop up on the app but they never do on Steam. So EA either has to stop the app from constantly downloading this * up file from it's cloud servers or give US more control over our own cloud saves
Please fix!
@Ashuraman666Hello, the problem may have changed since then.
As a test, I deleted everything in the Mass Effect Legendary folder in my Docs file. That includes TrilogyGamerProfile and the entire Save folder. So a blank slate.
There is a Steam Guide called 'Fast getting hard achievements: "Insanity I/II/III", The One and Only, Gunsmith, Long Service Medal, Paramore and others' with some save files attached. I downloaded the 'Gunsmith' one.
I put that into my Saves folder, so it was the only thing there.
Ran the game, play ME3, create profile, load game. I am standing in front of the Weapons Upgrade console with plenty of credits.
Turn the internet off. Buy my level X weapons. No pop. Try again with internet on. No pop.
So it doesn't seem to be an issue with savegame files. Or with the internet being on or off.
That might be because you were using a save that's not yours I´m not sure. When I tested it on ME2 I was using my own save file so
@Ashuraman666 Wow. Of all the things that could've caused this problem, I can't say that I expected it to be because the game is syncing to a cloud save that shouldn't even exist...
Yeah it's idiotic to say the least. Fortunately for me since I'm running the game on Steam and I only care about Steam chivos i can just use Steam Achievement Manager and unlock the steam chivos that way
- @Ashuraman666 Thanks, I had no idea such a thing as Steam Achievement Manager existed! Though that is a double edged sword, I have very happily got my game completion percentage up, that is going to be one tempting thing when the going gets tough (Resident Evil Village Valley of Shadows Chris).
I shall get back to the game, and use the SAM to get my achievements. Ta! I’m right at the end of ME1. Now I have to stop. It’s so depressing. I won’t buy anymore EA games until the launcher is fixed.
Well, it seems that since yesterday, we all use the origin trick to play and get achivements, now, it just dont work anymore, i think we can only wait to anyone find a solution, or the origin app to work again later
@Ashuraman666You know if using the SAM it´s safe? i mean it can ban me on steam or something like that?
I'd like to know if it's safe, too. I play on Steam as well, I don't care about the EA achievements.
For this game it's completely safe. You only risk a ban if it's for a game that has in game awards tied to the achievements which this game doesn't
- I have filed a support case on missing content through EA support. I don't think anything is going to happen, but maybe if we all do they might be annoyed enough to do something about it...
- @sesquipadalien After contacting EA support, I got this as a reply:

So they are just passing the buck to Steam? I could use some choice words right here and now... @sesquipadalien That there smells like a bot reply, but honestly who would know the difference with actual customer support.
- @sesquipadalien "Please kindly contact Steam support for further assistance."? Why? It's their app that's borked.
