Re: NEEDED features for NFS Unbound

Great post with some solid ideas.

NFS clearly has a loyal and keen player base, willing to spend their money on a decent product

Unbound has the potential to be a first class online arcade racer, leading the pack and breaking new ground in the genre

I have seen a whole host of excellent, implementable ideas, that the product team at EA and Criterion could use to build a roadmap to building a first in class online arcade racer

A lot of these ideas could be implemented in a season type format, similar to how Fortnite and other similar season based games. Evolving the map, races, cosmetics, and features over time.

Why invest in a new title when you can take the season approach and enhance the existing product into something th player base is so desperate for?

How you commercialise that? Over to you guys at EA 😃

  • There is really only two things holding this game from being able to pull something like the Fornite seasons concept. That would be the branding and marketing

I can't tell you how many times I called NFS Unbound "Heat" by mistake, because the title of the game is just so bland and forgetable, even if the game is solid. And with the game being marketed as a full game and not a live service game, it would be really hard to go that route with this entry.

I think this idea for a future entry would be the best route to go. The question is, how do we have a live service NFS that isn't a micro transaction pay-to-win mess? It's really hard to strike a balance, and that's likely why outside of NFS World, we haven't seen this attempted yet.

I think going into the next entry, if we can meet those goals though, we'll have the best NFS in years.

I don't know much about marketing, but perhaps you are right in that a season concept that evolves the game us best left to a future release

Regarding the micro transaction element, that would be critical to the viability of a season based version of NFS. But IMO it doesn't have to be pay to win.

Fortnite makes money through selling cosmetic upgrades that don't give players an advantage. They just look cool, and provide the players a way to create unique avatars.

NFS could do something similar, leaving the actual race mechanics as they are. They are already doing something along these lines by selling customised versions of certain cars alongside each new volume.

Hopefully this model can be enhanced if it has proven to be commercially viable

@Thump3r_77 If Need for Speed does basic customization Items as Time Limited Individual purchases I will lose interest in the franchise as a whole (I don't mind packs that you can buy at any time)

I know it is a business model that works but I'd hate to make minimal purchases that stack up way more than just buying full packs without things being limited time

We're already paying for a full game and a vital part of the NFS experience is the customization alone, if locking Neons and Airbags already caused an uproar to fans in Payback, I can't even imagine individual customization parts being sold separately being a popular with prior fans

Modern consumers I guess would bite, but it'd be like commiting treason to the rest of the existing community
