So many have the problem. EA when do you want to see it?
It's definitely not my tv. I changed all brightness and color settings on my TV and the ice is still grey and recalibrated HDR on the Xbox menu. On NHL 21 with Xbox's Auto HDR the ice was white , but now in NHL 22 it's grey with the ingame HDR enabled with the same TV settings. I turned the HDR off in my system settings and the ice was bright white in NHL 22. I shouldn't need to turn off HDR only for this game. The game really needs a HDR nit adjustment setting in the game.
Had the same issue with NHL 21...and NHL 20 and this was without HDR mode.
It's a bug in the game and needs to be fixed.
Yes, I have an OLED, but the problem ONLY happens when you enter the neutral zone or are in the defensive zone. When you are at the top of the screen in the offensive zone, the game looks beautiful and there is no dimming at all.
And for whatever reason, the problem is magically fixed months after the game releases, but then starts up again when the next NHL game in the series releases.

Hey, NHL Community.
We'll need to gather some details for the team. If you can reply back with the information we're requesting it would help us out tremendously.- Gamertag/PSN ID
- Platform you play the game on (Xbox One X, S, XB1, PS4, PS5)
- What type of TV or monitor do you have
- Where do you experience the dimming in game
Thank you for raising this to our attention.

PSN ID: Marvelicious845
System: PS5(also happenes on Xbox Series X)
TV: OLED CX and OLED E8 HDR Game Mode
The game dims when you enter the neutral zone and in the defensive zone when playing games in the NHL arenas, but when in the offensive zone, the game brightens up and stays bright. *This appears to not be an ABL issue* 2020 Samsung Q90T QLED TV.

Xbox Series X
I experience the dimming everywhere in the game. (Gameplay/Menus)
It is most noticeable on the ice where is it a greyish color inside of white as it is when HDR is off.
Also very noticeable on the player transition screens during gameplay where the colors look very dull.
I tried the Xbox HDR Calibration in the system settings multiple times, but it does nothing to help with the brightness in NHL 22.
I messed with every TV setting (Brightness, Color, Contrast, HGIG Tone Mapping, Auto Black Levels, Eco Settings, etc) and nothing makes the ice look less grey with HDR enabled.
I think the game really needs a HDR Brightness and Nit Peak adjustment settings in the game menus.
NHL 22 is the only game I own where there the HDR makes the game look less bright and vibrant and is lacking the HDR Brightness/Nit Peak adjustment settings in the game menus that most other HDR enabled games have.

Same like @casdevils2k ! It's happens when you enter the neutral zone or are in the defensive zone. In the offensive zone everything is okay.
Xbox X series. I had to disable HDR10 on my XBIX. That solved it.
Turn off HDR10, and that solves the darkness.
- @walts44 The issue is that there shouldn't be darkness with HDR. Turning off HDR shouldn't be a solution. You should post your TV so EA has more information to look into this issue.
^^^^Exactly this. I don’t do this with other games. I want the game to look good in HDR mode as the colors pop. It clearly does and is bright in the offensive zone until you enter the other 2 zones.
This exact same thing happened last year with me on my Oled without HDR and then it was fixed somehow later on.
Please everyone report so we can get this fixed asap.
- I have the same issues as well, HDR looking way too dark.
BC Racer
Xbox Series X
LG CX
The display appears dark throughout the game play experience. Did not occur with NHL 21 on the same console. Only appears to be in effect when HDR is on. Ice is greyed out and it looks like there is a power outage in the arena
- This also is the same for Ones and Threes
Same issue here on PS5. LG Tv not OLED.
Game looks bright at drop of puck then quickly fades to a dull gray after the play moves to new zone. Very distracting.
@EA_Blueberry Any update on this? Is this getting looked into?

@casdevils2k
No updates on this yet I'm afraid. It's been forwarded to the team for investigation. - @EA_Blueberry damn, thanks though. Hope there's a fix soon as I see more and more each day are experiencing the same problems.

When will it be fixed?
- @crisb2411 They just did an update and the bug is still there. Nothing have change
Hi there !
Playing NHL since 1994. First time ever playing NHL22 with « grey ice ». I just hope it’ll be fixed soon, can’t wait to start a new season with the Seattle Kraken.
Best regards to all.
Am I the only one who likes the dark atmosphere in the game? Makes it look vintage, which is perfect since I only play with historic rosters. The best thing would be if there was a brightness setting in the game so everyone could adjust it how they want it. I hope I won't lose this dark ice and atmosphere in coming patches. Always thought EA NHL games was too bright and boring looking, while I loved the darkness of the NHL 2k games in the past.
So EA, please give us a brightness setting so everyone can be happy.
Fix the HDR Bug or give me a refund!
