It's indeed some whacky behaviour, It would of course be more logical to be able to rejoin your team and help them.

Whilst a penalty does help with making sure the players looks after their issue, it isn't helpful to let them out of the match permanently.

This system could be adjusted in a certain way so that works properly, that way others can't abuse it.

We can't really have players just leave for x amount of time and rejoin just barely before they're all killed, otherwise they can just get out scot-free despite being out of the match most of the time.

IMO, it's probably unintended behaviour, I've seen others encounter this issue too... sucks quite a lot.
