Re: Premade teams on pubs are ruining the Apex Legend experience.

How would you fix this?

  • It is easy to fix by creating two pools:

    Pool 1: 2 stacks and 3 stacks
Pool 2: 2 stacks and solo players

Then it will become more balanced. People also will stop quitting the game after they knocked down if queue times are not instant.

Pool 1 would make it impossible to form 3 stacks from 2 stacks as there aren't any solo players in there.

It won't directly translate over to a better or balanced gaming experience either.

Increase in queue time could potentially also cause an issue for lower populated regions or regions with a bigger skill disparity, possibly causing an exponential increase of queue times.

(Next to that I personally doubt it's going to knock down the amount of leavers, as players typically care about leaving the game at the moment, they don't really think about next game)

Plus leavers would pretty much be an issue in casual, which this system really shouldn't be applied to.

Maybe for competitive it could work, though the previous issues would still apply.

Just what I think of course.

Match integrity outweighs everything. If you encourage unfairness, it says a lot about you as a player.

I rarely agree with you but on this one I actually do. Competitive fairness outweights fast queues, at least for ranked (I honestly dont care too much about this when it comes to pubs, but thats just me). Games like League of legends have applied this and even if its also a "team-game" which is the most common argument for Apex. In LoL, you are only allowed to duo premade in a 5v5 game up to Diamond I think and through master, grandmaster and Challanger you must solo Q. This creates THE MOST fair competition where only the best at playing as a team at equal conditions will keep advancing through the high elo ranks. Same should be applied to Apex imo.

So I say separate the queues into:

    Pool 1: Solo Q only

Pool 2: Premade 3 and Premade 2+ Solo Q who checked a "allow matching with premade duos" box.

And then let the shifted matchmaking times be the mechanism which mode will be prioritized. This might lead to a slightly longer queue for everyone but everyone will also get what they want. It might also lead to a situation where it takes very long time for duo premades to find matches since so few solo Qs want to play with them. But then they have the choice to either find a third to play as full 3-man or just play as solo Q. Why should Solo Qs be forced into those egoistic duo premade teams against their will only to please duos who just need a solo Q to use as bait and tank?

But the factor that I think is equally important is that 2 premade + 1 solo player teams ALWAYS create such bad team dynamics that this constellation should be avoided. I think you are either blind or just stupid if you dont see that a premade duo will make in-game choices much differently in this type of team constellation compared to playing as a 3-premade or as 3 solo Q.

Now @XHelperZ  will probably say "but teams of 3 solos doesnt make for better teamplay!" =). Perhaps not, but it wont make for worse either but whats most important is that it makes for FAIR AND UNBIASED team play. With a premade duo, their in-game choices will always be biased and leaning towards each other and against you. In a team of 3 randoms, knowing that everyone on the team are in fact randoms, every tactical choice will be based on how the randoms are playing, not who they are as individuals... That is better IMO
