That sounds really strange. I actually had similar experience like that on EU. I was looking for gold matches, the counter said 30, 50, 80, 120 players in queue before I got into a lobby after perhaps 1 minute. I got a bit suspicious and thought exactly like you like "Am I being sorted into a "special" gold lobby?". But this was a couple of splits ago and it also only happened once or twice. Now I get Silver to platinum matches in a couple of seconds.
What rank and region are you playing in when this happens to you?
Was referring to pubs btw and not ranked. But who knows whats going on under the hood of the matchmaking process. Perhaps its super rigged but I just think the simplest solution is the probably the most plausible, i.e that the matchmaking is quite random and not rigged. I just feel that the tin foil hat is rather common when it comes to the SBMM discussion. Bottom line is that players that are good at this game still manage to have more good causal games than bad. I am not a pro at at all but I manage to have pretty decent casual matches with about 9% winrate (only playing aggressively) and about 2.6 KD with early leaves included so I dont feel "targeted" by an unfair matchmaking at all
And yeah, ranked is stupid. It seems to just one big lobby with players from bronze to gold and does not match "similarly skilled players" at all. I actually had a higher KD from Gold4 to Plat4 last split than from Bronze4 to Gold4 =)
