Basically me and a bunch of other people (serious gamers, mostly) have already bound every specific ping to something else. I have the looting ping bound to X, for example. Enemy spotted to F, enemies have passed through here on C, etc...
Note that attacking here has no keybind and it should - I made another report. Same for the "no" reacion ping, I suppose.
The problem is that, since I have everything bound to a specific key, I don't need a ping wheel. The ping wheel is only there to annoy me, and annoy me it does. If I want to ping a body shield, I'll have to stop moving my camera, stand still, and ping, because otherwise, I risk unintentionally activating the wheel and pinging something like "enemy here". This makes the game clunky in my opinion, and I resent having to ping stuff for my teammates, because it means I must force myself to stop moving every few seconds at the start of a game.
So my two suggestions are :
- A keybind for a wheel-less general ping (able to ping supply ships, loot, etc...)
- An option to reduce the ping wheel sensitivity, so I have to move cursor way more before it activates, as such reducing the chance of using a wrong ping

Legitimate issue.
The ping wheel could do with being slightly less sensitive.
However, rather than encouraging individual binds, I'd suggest making the smart ping smarter.
If I'm pinging near a high value loot item, I'm probably not wanting to ping the storage container it's sitting in, or the floor by my feet.
Same with balloons, zip lines, and lots of other elements.
