Are The Apex Fundamentals Being Neglected?

Hello Fellow Legends,

Let me start by saying, I love this game. I haven't enjoyed a game this much since Bad Company 2 (greatest game I've ever had the pleasure of playing) and imo this is possibly the best BR/LS there is currently; for now. I only recently started playing Apex, believe it was almost a month ago. But with that said, I feel compelled to write this post.

After having played for this past month I've experienced a plethora of problems, ones which I imagine are the same issues everyone else has had with this game. Unfortunately it seems as though the development for the title has come to a crawl. Whilst they still may be incorporating new material and altering map designs, devs seem to be turning a blind eye to petty problems.

I'm not going to lay out the laundry list since the majority of people reading this already know the bugs I'm referring to. But just as a recent example, the release of Season 9... what an absolute shitshow for a game that has been out for almost two and half years and is run by one of the worlds largest game creation companies. Even as I'm writing this 4 days after the drop, people are still having issues making it past the log in screen.

Now if this were a small company that's developing, that's a completely different story. But its not.

Were talking about a company founded in 1984, that has released all the Battlefield titles, Titanfall 1 & 2, Fifa & Madden series, Sims etc. and yet a company this big can't even allocate more servers just for people to log in.. There were 350k+ people watching twitch streamers stare at a menu screen for 4-6 hours..... To me, that is mindboggling, so much so that its starting to make me believe this is the beginning of the end.

That is unless Respawn/EA really starts getting it together.

If they do I feel as if this could possibly become the greatest BR game of all time. I say that for a variety of reasons but the biggest of which is because of friends that have played all the BR titles, some of them even religiously but they all adore apex. Though they have also have expressed that there's too many bugs for a game and company of this caliber.

I know to some degree I am dramatizing the situation and that technically the game is doing better than ever. I just don't want Apex to turn into a H1Z1 or PUBG, its why I'm writing this post. I feel like EA doesn't acknowledge the full potential of Apex and its mildly infuriating. When I play apex, I see/feel Counter Strike potential. A game that could be popular/profitable for another decade if they put in the time and money.

We all know what EA is capable of and it pains me to see such an incredible game like Apex in this state. It feels like the issues are multiplying and many are not being addressed (or at least not quickly enough). There's a reason why the saying the Devil is in the Details exists, because ultimately its minute repetitive problems that make or break anything.

If you made it this far then thanks for reading my rant. Feel free to agree and roast me, all I want to see Apex succeed. Lets pray Respawn/EA turns over a new leaf in the near future.

I wish the level cap to start playing ranked would be much higher than level 10. I know it may slow down the occasional talented and or experienced player coming from other games and heading to compete, but in the vast majority of the cases it would help reduce smurfing and cheating in general in ranked at least. Just my opinion.

@ZeosTW People have been saying the game is dying for 8 seasons (2 years) now. It isnt and many of the issues have been mentioned as being worked on. The game keeps growing and will keep doing so until a similar better game is released.

@Lord_Scorpion34 @hayhor I agree that there's still plenty of life left in Apex, never said it was dying, actually the opposite... But that's not what I'm addressing here. I'm more so trying to understand why EA and the devs haven't decided to put a lot more resources into this game's development. They have a gem on their hands and it just seems like they're letting it go to waste.
Its almost as if they're adding new content in hopes that people will just overlook the current issues. And I when I hear you say these issues are being "worked on" that honestly sounds like guess, unless you have inside information. I have friends that have played the game since its release and they've said some of these bugs have been around since then.
Just as a very small list, the slowmo bs (yes I know its "unfixable" but for some reason I doubt that's actually the case), pathfinders ring audio is completely broken, reviving people next to doors (especially the large ones) mid fight is extremely precarious, as @Vdstrk mentioned ranked needs some serious tweaking (not going into details on this post), sometimes lifelines bot is indestructible for whatever reason, swapping weapons and attachments is sometimes buggy, etc..
I know no game will ever be perfect, I've played enough of them to realize that. I just feel like much of the game's play and fundamental mechanics are being neglected. When really if they were to go back, rework some of these aspects it would probably be more beneficial then adding new content or tweaking maps imo

I do not mean to defend or disparage the game in any ways. My personal take on it is because they want Apex to be an inclusive mostly casual gaming experience, where regardless of one's skill, a player can always find a team through matchmaking and have fun regardless of whether you are on pc or console.
Does this approach work? IMO yes it does work very well for the casual player who can afford to spend only few hours a week playing the game.
For the more invested player the game may be found lacking in several ways --subjectively speaking.
For the most gifted, the pro players, the game may work the way it is, or need minor changes, because their skill level can compensate for what the game is lacking in (again, my opinion).

@ZeosTW I feel ya man. The game system itself, the shooting, movement, legends, all great at surface level, but when you get into development, bugs, nerfs, and how long it takes to fix things only for the fix to be worse than before, this game is the best first person shooter in a decade that has been this mismanaged. I place ALL the blame on the publisher, because EA is a soulless vapid mistress that only cares about sucking you dry. It's gluttony incarnate.
If it weren't for the whales, this game would have died already. The only reason EA puts any budget into this is because it's still monumentally profitable. Just give the whales some 2 hour cosmetic designs and charge them $20 for it, or make it exclusive and charge $40. Stupid parasitic companies deserve to die, but unfortunately, we don't live in a society of smart people anymore.

Find it hilariously ironic that a community manger or someone of the sort has added hayhors post as a "solution" to this thread when its really just meant to be a discussion... unless its an automatic mechanic. Though after looking through other old conversations that are hundreds of replies long and with some posts having double digit likes, they still don't have a "solution" pinned. Guess they don't want this thread blowing up

There isn't some conspiracy against your topic to clarify, Cm's generally only intervene with rule breaches. Freedom of speech is welcomed here as long as it stays civil. 😛
Regarding the actual topic though, I'm not a game developer so I don't really understand the complexities of the issues the devs are having to deal with in game. However I do feel sometimes feel like they could do better.
I can completely see why people would thin apex is neglected, due to the sheer frequency in which we see issues arise, some of which are recoccuring issues.

How did this reply get so many XP lmao. ZeosTW never said the game's dying. He's just worried the game might die slowly in the future because of too many bugs/issues being ignored. If you think it's an overreaction, then you're probably ignorant of issues such as these that have been existing for many seasons:
Game mode change in the lobby not working at times (done with playing ranked and switched to Casual/Firing Range/Arenas but the game brings you to another ranked game)
Getting abandon penalty in rank games due to server crashing
Code leaf errors
Loba's Black Market sometimes totally not working (items are in the list but can't be obtained)

Getting high ping (200+ms) despite selecting the correct data center
Can't melee at the end of stim animation
Pistol with optics recoil animations ~x5 worsened during stim (but iron sights are not affected)
There's definitely a ton more issues that I've forgotten/don't know about, but you all know I don't have to list them all. We all know this game is buggy as hell.
Please, don't ignore all of the OP's points just because you thought he said something he never did.

@ZeosTW You mentioned development had come to a crawl which with the tone of the rest of the comments I took to mean it was dying. If you didnt mean this I apologize. My point still stands. Yes the game has issues but they are being more transparent on them and how they are working on fixes. This points to the opposite of what you said about development.

Also I have no idea who made my post the answer but I fan assure you there isnt some conspiracy. I would have removed it but I see mando did it already.
