Ash - OP or Trash?
New legends are tough to balance, we get that. Of all the legends introduced since I started playing in Season 4, I think Valk is the only legend who has come in balanced (and even then she had a sli...
My 2 cents: It doesn't matter if she's OP or Trash because her kit just adds fuel to the ever growing fire that has been sparked since day 1 of the Apex Games.
That fire is third parties.
Her kit isn't insanely overpowered from what I've seen of it. Scanning a box is very situational (mainly because half the time you have a box from a team that your team killed). Her tactical is fine, probably on par with Fuse or Watson, but honestly kind of awkward to use since it doesn't travel like an arc star (it kind of hovers in the air if you throw it straight). The ult is good, but tricky to use with how hard it is to place/see (reminds me somewhat of Loba bracelet back before they fixed it).
The biggest issue I have with her is the ability to see literally every death happen in real time just by looking at the map... That's just pouring gas on the third party issue we've all dealt with in this game. The map size kind of nerfs that since fights are like 2000+ meters away, but God help us when the other maps are in rotation...
Current opinion on Ash a week into the game: She's fine. Actually happy that they didn't do the Seer thing where they deliberately OVERPOWERED the character with a nerf ready to go in the next update. Actually curious how Ash plays in the other maps. I don't think she will change meta though when it comes to the pro scene. As for the tactical, I don't think it's that strong as other people have pointed out. Fun new legend with a good lore and definitely a good addition to the roster.
Hot take: Wraith portal is still better. I still see the Ash ult as closer to an Octane jump pad rather than a Wraith portal.
@BaldWraithSimp I'm no ash pro by any means, but I'm using the tactical a lot, and I can honestly say it can be devastating.
All I can say really is;
-Don't throw it mindlessly, you'll probably miss.
-Use it as an ambush tool, you're going to have a considerably higher chance of hitting an unsuspecting victim. My personal favourite is tethering deathbox looters with it, especially if they're in the process of a shield switch.
-it also makes a good doorway blocking tool, if you're being chased.
There's probably plenty of other effective applications for it too, but I haven't found em yet. 😛
its very different considering fuse's tactical is about 100 times faster and doesnt slow bu i find you can use both in very similar ways, to block doors, to initiate, to generally annoy people
@Cheese9Man Some pros actually are trying her in competitive, and she's good, not op, but she can be up there. Imo her tactical speed should be slightly buffed, now it's too easy to dodge, but overall she's a balanced legend. Her ult is better than Wraith's if you want to push a team or flank it (it's faster), but Wraith is better for other situations.
Also about Ash's portal, sometimes it's hard to see where you're going to place it, they should make it clearer (and put a marker on the map, now we don't have one).
Regarding Ults in my opinion/experience what I see is:
To be honest, I still see Wraith currently being rendered useless and only people who played her from season 1 / their day 1 keep picking her now (based on their own feedback - I usually ask people why they pick Wraith as I don't really get it 😛), otherwise, she is just useless/less useful for the team at the moment.
p.s. in the meantime enjoying getting aped by Ash teams - got 3 cases in 10 maps yesterday via Ash portal which noone from my team heard 🥳
Just shy of 200 kills with Ash, and really enjoying playing her, hopefully Repsawn doesn’t nerf her anytime soon, as I think she’s a balanced legend.
Imo, she’s a very good legend when utilized with teammates that actually use their coms, and we all know that doesn’t happen often with randoms.
Just a few points, when using her smart knife, players ultimately think “OP”, but it goes both ways. That being said, on many occasions, when we got located by an enemy Ash scanning a death box, we sprinted back to those death boxes and wiped the team. Also, her passive isn’t always a sure shot, many times when sprinting for a recent death box by looking at the map, we crossed other teams before we could even make it there.
All of the aforementioned is very situational, and also highly depends on your team’s composition, if they want to push, or rush.
If anything, her ult indicator could be a little brighter, I often lose sight of it.
She’s in a good spot, just enough to shift the meta, and make for new and exciting plays.
