For what it's worth, I agree with both you and @NaRnIaaa
As I've said before, it's not about difficulty, it's about what feels fun for me and what doesn't. Personally, I was enjoying myself much more in the old system, as I felt every match (even a bad one) contributed more to my BP than now, because that system was more focused on XP.
With this system, every time I have a match and I don't get something done for a challenge, I just feel like I'm wasting my time. Yeah, there is still XP in this system, But if you're not completing challenges, that's 50k XP for every level. So, it just doesn't feel great to me.
And, also, as I've said before, I'm pretty sure that I'm currently a higher BP level than I was at this point in time, in previous seasons, but that probably has a lot to do with the 10-free battle pass levels and that double XP week we had. Without those things, I'm not 100% sure where I would be. And since we probably won't be having those in season 8, If we keep this current system as is, I don't think I'm going to be too thrilled to play Apex.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.

@hayhor people with limited time to play / people who are working on multiple BPs outside of Apex will almost certainly grind OBJs first then play for fun later. Moreso now since you need to grind out the OBJs in order to complete pass in a reasonable amount of time, whereas old system with the scaling levels 5 hours worth of play (not in one sitting obviously) through time alone would get you 3 BP levels, whereas the new system gets you only one.
Plus if you've grown disenchanted with playing through crappy hit-reg / audio / SBMM / net-code / server stability / quality of teammate like I have, playing the game is no longer fun, it's more of a chore. The BP changes were just a cheap gimmick to try and bolster / manipulate player retention data by forcing players to spend the same if not more time playing, just spread out over the course of the week.
Think of it in terms of line-plots. Big spikes in player retention doesn't look good to investors / shareholders, it means your consumer-base is unstable, they're not interested / entertained enough to keep consistently playing. New BP changes fix that by ironing out big spikes into a flatter more consistent plot, giving the illusion that things are going well.

@hayhor
Well, I mean "waste of time" as far as the BP is concerned. And with a challenge heavy system, what I said isn't exactly incorrect. With each Star needing 5K XP and each BP level needing 50K XP, without challenges, it definitely would take longer to finish the BP without them than it would with them. Basically, the more challenges you are unable (or unwilling) to do, the bigger grind you make for yourself.
And, the more often that happens, the easier it is for your time to feel like a waste, or at least feel like it's getting much less "value" than it could be.
And, yes, I know, it's a game. And the goal is to have fun, but I would also like the things I'm paying for* to be obtained in a reasonable amount of time for reasonable amount of effort. But, with this system, the more challenges you don't do, the more and more time you have to put into just playing/getting XP, which (at least for me) can turn my time with Apex more into a chore than fun. And, this wasn't really something I felt in the old system, as I've said in other posts, hence my issue with the current system..
*Also, yes, I said the pass I paid for. Now, I know some people reading that will say "Well, you technically only pay for the first pass, every pass beyond that is free, due to the coins you get". And, to that I say: you're right... Provided you decide to never purchase anything else in the game, ever. But, if you buying anything more than that pass, you will have to stick more money into the game. And, I can't speak for anyone else, but I definitely spend more than those extra 50 coins you get with the premium BP, each season. So, usually by the time the next battle pass rolls around, I need to buy more coins to get it, because I bought other stuff in the game. - E9ine_AC5 years agoHero+
@pastaclownThe game devs didn't choose for players to work on other game's battle passes. Nor should it be a concern to them. Giving this game at hand it self and its leveling system it is 100% obtainable with ease. The game should not cater to other game's battle passes.
Other games battle passes mean nothing to this game's time frame of leveling this games battle pass it's on the player to make a choice of which they want to be leveled.

@E9ine_AC ah yes, the stunning stellar point of, "Let's design the BP without any regards to the consumer, they shouldn't be playing other games anyway."
Congrats! Apparently you were completely fine with S7's initial BP changes, not the reverted ones.

This is a players choice. You can either buy the pass once or buy it multiple times. So if you choose to spend your coins then yea you will have to purchase the next. So all in all the theory of buying only 1 pass is completely true. Its then up to the player to decide if they want to keep this trend going or spend more money.
No matter the excuses given on this topic nothing can back up the claims of it being a time sink. You have how many on this topic commenting on how easy it actually is? Verse the dislikes. Yall are heavily out numbered here.
I have loads of challenges not even complete a total of over 2 weeks of challenges yet I'm done with the pass. Whats the problem here? I have multiple weeks not even done. Week 7, 0 out of 8 week 8 zero out of 8 week 1 through 7 I'm missing more then 24 challenges being done. Yet I'm done with the battle pass and hardly worried about challenges. - E9ine_AC5 years agoHero+@pastaclown The game does care about the player on their game. Why should they cater their battle pass to ensure players can do other games battle passes?
This is of zero concern nor care to them. They provide a game and its system it should not cater to a player who wishes to play multiple games and multiple battle passes. I am not sure how you can even come up with a argument to back your claims up.
Players asking for extensions so they can finish a battle pass is like going to fortnite devs and saying hey can we ummm like extended the time frame of this so I can finish my apex battle pass? No they going to laugh in your face. Because their system is not designed around catering to another games system. - 5 years ago

But that's not the reality for most of us who play the game. And therefore, our experience/take on the game will be different than yours. Doesn't mean you're right and we're wrong. Or vice versa. It's just different perspectives is all.
Also, as for what you said here:
"The game does care about the player on their game. Why should they cater their battle pass to ensure players can do other games battle passes?

Technically, that is all very true. But, companies need to realize that they aren't the only game in town (pun intended). And if people feel their time and effort isn't being valued, then they'll take that (and their money) elsewhere. That is the reality, as well.
- hayhor5 years agoHero@pastaclown They dont care that people are trying to level other passes. Well they do, they dont want you to leave the game so they try and get you more engaged. It isnt dumb, its intelligent.
Can I ask you a question- Why do you care about the battle pass? What is in it that is worth the trouble, especially if the game is not worthwhile for you? - hayhor5 years agoHero@JonStriker126 Similar question for you- What is in the pass you want or need?
I'm asking these questions wondering why I get it myself btw 🤣 - 5 years ago
@hayhor
Well, in general, I like having crafting materials. Especially when anything from collection events are so expensive without them. Also, I liked both legendary skins in this pass for the legends. And I liked the r99 skins too. I currently don't even have a legendary skin for the r99 so it would be nice to have one. I also did like some of the emotes, especially because I don't have any emotes for some of the legends that are featured this season.
And, if I continue to play the game, those are all things that I would like to have. And, obviously, none of this is really a need. I don't need to have any of this stuff, but I also don't need to play the game either. It's something that I like to do because I do enjoy the core gameplay. however, that doesn't mean I don't have issues with other parts of the game, like the current battle pass system. Also, honestly, I don't know what season 8 will bring and I'm just hoping that it's a better experience for me than this one. I won't really know if it is or isn't until it happens. As Ive said before, in other threads, season 7 is/was kind of a test season for me, in terms of the new system. I don't really like it as is, but maybe they'll make changes going forward. Who knows? I'm sticking around to see what they do.

@hayhor like @JonStriker126 said, it's the crafting metals, everything else is extra. The R99 skin is nice, but truthfully unimportant compared to the long-term investment of crafting mats.
If you played S2 and bought S2 pass, that's 10 bucks for 1200 metal. Every season after you got 1200 metals too. 2-7 is 5 seasons for 10 dollars for 6000 crafting metals total (I'm sitting at 4.7k) which saves you money on event exclusive skins should you want one.
Plus I'm still sitting around waiting for beneficial changes to pop up. There's nothing else to do except grind out achievements for Cyberpunk, but that's not 100% what I want to do with my time. Genuinely waiting for something to come out that I can sink time into, aside from Apex. Engaging challenges aside, the thing they should've focused on should they want more engagement from players, is having a fun, functional game. Not 7 seasons of poorly functioning audio / hit-reg / net-code / server stability / etc. etc. Fun is subjective, but functional is not.
- hayhor5 years agoHero@pastaclown and @JonStriker126 thanks. I guess I actually buy them for the same reason. Most items in the passes I dont use.
@hayhor course you wouldn't use most of them, for the most part it's just crappy stat-trackers and really bad re-colors of the default weapon. Blegh.

@JonStriker126Similar question for you- What is in the pass you want or need?
I'm asking these questions wondering why I get it myself btw 🤣@hayhor that is a dam fine question. My answer is I don't know! There's nothing specific I desire. I bought the BP without thinking too much about it. I have the coin saved up so why not. I also save up the cm for Wraith skins. So I guess those are the 2 reasons I buy and play for the BP.
Saying that I thought the Bloodhound skin in S6 was a superb must have skin.
After buying the BP I didn't like the initial grind they applied, it made the whole thing much more pressurised for a game and took the joy out of it.
The double xp and extra levels has helped make it less so. Also the dailies aren't too difficult. I'm around 74 now so should make the full BP 110 before the end of season just playing normally.
What is interesting is that I now play my first 2 games every day as the daily challenge legend. Previously I rarely played any other legend than Wraith, for any challenge, weekly or daily. I still don't try too hard for the weekly non wraith challenges despite some of them being for a entire BP level, 10 stars!
So it seems that the star system is working on me in a small daily way and I'm enjoying it. 😃
