Collection Event and Heirloom?

So I have enough money to get all of the event packs in the upcoming collection event. But I have also opened 476 apex packs since my first heirloom. My question is this: If I get the heirloom from the event, does that reset my pack counter? I have opened 476, and I am debating on whether I should buy 20-something packs now and get the first heirloom, and then try and get a little more money to buy the event stuff? Because I will, unless the event heirloom resets my pack counter.
