Does Lore Really Matter in FPS Games?

This game has cool characters with cool backstory & all, but does that really matter to you? Like if this game didn't have all the lore & backstory would it effect which legend you play or if you even play the game at all?

I remember seeing all the Overwatch animated shorts thinking oh that's cool. They should make a movie or series out of this. But I never once played the game. On the other end, I've played BF & COD without giving a second thought to any lore or the story in the campaign. I think I've only ever finished one solo game to one of those franchises as a matter of fact. But basically as soon as I was able to play the multiplayer I forgot about the solo mode in those games completely.

This game has a lot of story though especially since it's a part of Titanfall, which I still have to catch up on all that if I want to fully understand what's going on with some parts of the story. It's like when you pick up reading a comic & you've missed several issues. I also sometimes feel it's too fragmented with all the ways they provide lore that some people will never access, like the Twitter comics for example. Not everyone has or cares to have Twitter. Or Pathfinder's book. Not everyone is going to get that. But I do feel they should do more visual media like a show. I'd even watch a movie if they did one.

But back to the main point. How much does lore matter to you in games where you're just shooting people?

    Well....

The comic book lore is terrible.

But the movie lore is amazing.

I think FPS players like to descend into fantasy and feel like there is another dimension to a pew pew shoot game even when there is not any actual game impact.  Plus the Titanfall lore is pretty awesome.  Respawn, I bet, makes more money rolling out lore than not, so I think cost wise they've weighed it and it works out for them.

Me, I'll take those Stories from the Outlands short movies any day.  They've been phenomenal.  Just, you know, when I go play, I still realize that Rampart is bad and Horizon is good, no matter what the lore says :D

when you know the lore you learn why your caracter in game says sertain things to eachother.

like loba how she says you don't desrve my help demon to revenant. its BC rev killed her father.

mirrage is downed and wraith resses she tells him she can't let him die bc his biggest fan (his Mom or maybe Horizon she is fond of him aswell) wouldnt forgive her.

horizon probably sees her decesed son in Elliot (mirrage) she compliments him on everything.

well the list is long and there is a reson for every word they say..

for me it makes the game 200% more fun to know the backstory...
