EA/Respawn does not own the servers?
I actually didn't know that EA/Respawn rents their servers from a 3rd party company, Multiplay which I think is owned by Unity. Their 6 year contract with Multiplay will end on August around the time...

I remember the days when i used to play novalogic's delta force and joint ooerations games. If you wanted your own server you could either set one up or rent one.
It meant you could choose which maps were in rotation and you also admin'd it yourself.
I was a mapmaker and had my maps on other peoples' servers, it was great
@HogynDrwgBack in those days, almost all the games available in my country were "free to play" (cracked). Software piracy was flourishing. I doubt game studios liked that :P
