Explain arena ap gain?

My wife and I play apex together somewhat regularly. She enjoys arena I enjoy BR.

We're both gold 4 arena but when we win she only gains 13 ap and ill get anywhere from 80 to 97.

I've read kills and assists don't count towards ap gain so it can't be that. I've also read that match making rating effects how you rank up. So my conclusion is since she plays so much more arena than me her MMR is higher than mine so when we play against people in our actual gold rank she hardly gets points compared to me, can anyone confirm?

And how is one supposed to rank up only getting a measly 13 AP at a time

In my experience - you get to the gold and then you grind asking questions like "how the F this * got to diamond" as somehow there are totally brainless players who did magically get straight to platinum and diamond.

I really use arenas only to have fun and warm up, didn't like the whole thing from the start... if BR with randoms are painful, then arenas with randoms and randomized ranking system nobody gets is even more so e.g. getting matched vs master dude while having level 23 (who actually plays like one) on my team... Master dude 3v1 us all game long with wingman.

  • Yes, I have same concerns. 🤔

    I mean... I only get +12RP when I won.

(I know the win streak bonus. But that is +1 or +2 anyway. :P )

And I am in silver ranked now.

Do I need to win 10s matchs??? Really?

And when I lost the match against the Master Badge Holder, I got RP-40???

    What is this...?

  • @F5arTheB5ard According to the way the MM is supposed to work, that means the MM thinks your wife is at least one rank better than you are, and is actively trying to bump her up to what it considers an appropriate rank. By the same token, it thinks you in about the correct rank, which is why your points have plateaued.

Here is a page explaining how ELO systems work.

@pandareno1999As far as I understand Apex does not have quite an ELO system given it was mentioned there are some mysterious variables that affect your points received or lost. The basis might be the same but not quite.

Also, it does not go hand in hand with matchmaking as it should take into account the team's ELO then e.g. I got a game where we faced ex master in BR (or maybe even current, I don't distinguish badges and can't tell from arenas), dude, of course, whipped us with wingman 1v3 most of the 3 rounds.

I am Gold level arenas, level ~600. I had two guys with me <200 with no skill, probably like Silver BR at most, ex master teammates were better. Yet I got the same deduction as per usual = game thinks that I should be able to win ex master or just disregards that fact in general and takes into account only Arena's performance...even though still wondering which variables as this dudes K/D ratio is at least 3 times if not 5 times of mine e.g.

To sum up - this system is not transparent, clearly does not improve matchmaking and game experience, nor makes a significant difference between games I am getting in regular vs. ranked arenas.
