Gold
I'm not much for ranked but have been giving it a go since Christmas day and last night via my final game reached Gold. It amazes me how so many poor players make it to silver. I was 3 points from Go...
As someone that has solo Q'd to plat+ every season except 2 and 3, it's incredibly easy to make it to play. You can AFK the entire match, as long as you play top 5, you still get points...
Then once you're in plat, it gets even worse, because people make it there simply from either ratting or because they have good mechanical skills (i.e. aim). The reason it gets worse is because they have absolutely 0 game sense and their positioning is terrible. Highest I've made it is diamond solo, but once you get there, then it's full pred squads and try-hards, either that or you get stuck with plat4 rats.
Just posted about this in another thread.
Frankly, ranked isn't that much more serious than straight up pug games. I find it tiring to get through bronze and silver, even though you can get lots of kills. I like it for certain things, but none of them have to do with the grind of going up which takes too long.
I'm not ashamed to say I've abandoned matches. I'm also not ashamed to say I've watched pugs hot drop, while I go somewhere else, let them leave after they know I won't be picking them up which would be suicide, and then placing 2nd-5th alone.
If it were better, like most any other game with ranked, where you literally weren't still more rewarded for abandoning games than sticking with them, maybe it would be better. But then again, it's a Battle Royale...you kind of get really dumb games all the time and that's not just with other players. You drop and get no armor, you drop and get no weapons, you have to run away, you have to wait, you have to do so many rng things that even when you play your best, it can be a chore.
But yeah, I don't really do well with most players. I do sometimes find really good people though and I keep playing for the few matches that are really fun because of good team mates when they show up.
