Heirloom drop rate apex legends

I have been reading some articles online about Heirloom shard drop rates and everyone seems to assume the odds are 1 in 500 due to the bad luck protection. 

I have always been under the impression the odds of getting Heirloom shards in a single pack aren't 1/500. The odds are quite simply less than 1% with no specifics given. This means it could be 0.80% or 0.01% 

I wonder if someone could give me an actual answer on this as every website seems to be very misleading. I just want to know if the odds are in fact 1/500 per pack or any other specific percentage.

    You've just pretty much summed up everything that is known by anyone except for Respawn.  One can surmise from the relative paucity of anecdotes reporting getting shards before pack 500 that the odds are extremely low.  People who think there is a 1/500 chance of getting shards don't understand how the system works, and those who say that the odds go up as you approach pack #500 are likewise deluded.  Pack #499 has just as little chance of pulling shards as pack #1.
