Forgive this old man's ignorance, Smurfs are these veteran players who make up a new account to accomplish what exactly?
I am pretty sure I have been in a couple of matches where the two random players I hooked up with were these "smurfs". The highest level player was about ten, yet the two of them were able to get champion. Since they were doing so well, I followed along and watched. The match took place in a BR and was not ranked. I just don't see how they benefit from an alternate account.

@Xubunnytwo Here's a couple reasons. 1) People level up new accounts enough so that they high enough level to play ranked, then sell the accounts. Cheaters buy these. 2) People make fresh accounts in order to try to farm Wake and/or Wrath badges in beginner lobbies, then either switch to that account themselves or sell it for $$$. 3) They are tired of playing in their high ELO matchmaking and playing in fresh accounts to get easy lobbies, so that they can roll through the lobby like your randoms did. The first two of these cases unfortunately have big markets out there. There are more reasons, but these are among the most common.
