@reconzero I have a theory on why apex is the way it is.
The more aggressive you are, the more you tend to die early, to the point where a top ten can be called a good game as long as you have three kills. The more you die early, the more wins mean to you, as aggressive players generally won’t make it into the the top three. If you play passively, you tend to avoid fights, and consistently get top three, or to two. Getting a higher placement gets you a more happiness than getting kills. This brings me to my final point, and big theory, respawn and EA want you to play aggressive. The more aggressive you play the less happy with the game you are, so you search for that happiness in other places, which is where the monetization of you sadness comes into play. Just as you are about to set down the game becase you got one kill and died early, apex releases a new collection event with an heirloom for your main, and a new ltm promoting aggressive play. This hooks you back into the game, end encourages you to spend money, even when the event leaves you still have leftover happiness that slowly gets drained away with bad games, only to get a small boost when you win. Hypothesis: passive play mindset, or doing silly things and expecting death is better for your mental health and wallet.

- 3 years ago@BigMacAttack8u the more aggressive you play, the more chances you take, and not just from the parties that you fight directly, but also from third parties. Playing passive could give you a higher avg. placement, but you won't be as ready or kitted as other teams that are participating in more fights. Ultimately, people need to have good gun skills, movement, map knowledge, rotational skills, and good decision-making skills in order to be good at the game and win more.
From what I see, the monetization part comes from people wanting to look and feel good in front of others. - reconzero3 years agoSeasoned Ace@BigMacAttack8u
Interesting theory. I like it. It explains why I haven't felt any need whatsoever to buy anything in this game. That's also explained by me being a cheap *. But I like your theory better. 😉
