@reconzeroShe does change that, because she always has a sniper, unless she used it up. So at any given time, she can pull it out and snipe at somebody. Not sure what her pick rate is, but from my experience solo q'ing, it's probably around 80% that somebody on my team picks her, most likely because she's new. Her whole kit is designed to enhance her sniping.
I've been playing FPS shooters for 20+ years and BR's for almost 5 years. Snipers are a part of a lot of games but some games are designed so that sniping isn't as much of a threat, whether it's damage, difficulty of using one, or map design. In Apex, you have snipers like the charge rifle, which doesn't even have any drop off, and they're very easy to use because the beam that is cast is like a laser pointer that can guide your shot. This doesn't exist in any FPS games I played. Vantage's alt gives her intel on targets (evo shields, how many in the team...etc.) and her q allows her to get positioning by flying. Then you have KC, which is the current ranked map, that makes snipers more viable. It's boring.
As to how much of a role sniping should or shouldn't play in this game... to some degree that's just a matter of personal preference. But I will say this: you managed to push a button with me when you said, "It's boring." For me "boring" is a descriptor that allows people to self-designate as being adhd, or something like it. And while I sympathize with people who like a fast-paced game, Apex isn't necessarily that game. It CAN be, but it doesn't have to be, especially if peopled by players who like a longer-ranger, slower moving game. Some matches play slow, some don't, but what I don't want is any player, or the developer, deciding that one of those types of match is "wrong," and that the game needs to be altered so that it plays exclusively the other way.
- 3 years ago@reconzero the game is always being altered (updates). It's not perfect and aspects of the game change or are added, and they need to make adjustments.
Because I said it's boring, you're telling me I have adhd? Is that something you came up or is that something that a professional has found in a study? If it's not proven by a professional, you're basically insulting me. Also, why does that push a button for you when I'm expressing my own opinion on something? If you have an opinion that I don't agree with or like, it doesn't push any buttons. I accept it as your opinion. Doesn't bother me.
In certain situations, you don't have cover. One instance is when you rotate through certain areas, and...the ring change is not very forgiving. - reconzero3 years agoSeasoned Ace@swift07
Apologies if the above seemed harsh or personal. I guess it was a wordy way of saying that I wish that you'd said, "It's boring in my opinion." Instead of just saying, "It's boring." Which implies (to me) many things that you may not have intended.
It's a button pusher for me because I spent 20 years in neck-snapping twitchy shooters, and I came to battle royale exactly because I was tired of playing games where I couldn't be competitive without courting a meth habit.
And I've always played this game (since day one) as a sniper game. I guess that's part of the reason Vantage doesn't seem all that meta-changing to me. This has always been my meta. So it's particularly scary to me when players start suggesting that sniping is somehow a second-string skill, or a ratter's cheap gambit. Or suggesting that things need to speed up. The new, shorter ring timer makes me feel like the developer may well agree, and that means that if they take this much farther then I have to start looking for a new game. And I don't want to start looking for a new game. That's the button. - 3 years ago@reconzero No prob. I wasn't trying to imply anything else but simply expressing how I felt about it by saying "it's boring".
TBH, I always thought of Apex as a fast-paced game with the movement and legend abilities but they do add content to the game that does change the pace. For example, adding Vantage this season with the return of KC. In combination, I feel the game has gotten slower in pace since there are a lot of people using Vantage and more people sniping because of the map. I wouldn't say sniping is a "second-string" skill or a "ratter's cheap gambit", but a lot of casuals do use it for their benefit. There are a lot of people who are good at sniping, which I can respect. But to me, it's boring when a large portion of the lobby is sniping (teammates and opponents). Btw, I feel like the new shorter ring timer often benefits snipers. Well, the ones that get in the ring early and gate keep people. - 3 years ago
I despise people who purposely plan to gate keep btw lol
